88 Films Bombards Us With Action With Their June/July/August Slate
British Blu-Ray distributor, 88 FILMS, have been delivering the goods with their martial arts action releases for years now and they’re showing no signs of stopping any time soon.
Physical Media fans have a lot to look forwards to over the next few months as 88 Films are set to hit us with a veritable avalanche of classic Hong Kong action flicks. Check out their slate below:
JUNE
Fist of Legend (6/24) – Everyone and their dog knows this film. Considered Jet Li’s best by many, it tells the story of Chen Zhen (also portrayed by Bruce Lee in Fist of Fury) fighting off the evil Japanese. Features fight choreography from Yuen Woo Ping and a fantastic villain in the form of Billy Chow. Availaiable on both Blu-Ray and 4K UHD.
To Kill Wih Intrigue (TBD) – While a date hasn’t been set in stone for this one, most people are leaning towards July. This 1977 Lo Wei effort may be fairly unknown outside genre fans but for Jackie completists it’s a must. Features fight choreography by the man himself! Another one that will be available on Blu-Ray and 4K UHD.
JULY
Sex and Zen (7/29) – Okay, okay…it’s not exactly an action film (well, not the type of action we’re talking about), but it is a Hong Kong classic and it’s great to see it getting an 88 Films release. This way it’ll have all the bells and whistles. If you’re not familiar with Sex and Zen, it’s a very raunchy sex comedy and a legendary CAT III (Hong Kong’s version of NC-17) film.
AUGUST
Bodyguard From Beijing (8/26) – Another 90’s Jet Li classic. This time he teams up with frequent collaborator Corey Yuen to deliver a modern day actioner with Jet playing the titular bodyguard to Christy Chung (Tai Chi II). Collin Chou (The Matrix Reloaded) pops up as the villain. Available on Blu-Ray and 4K UHD.
Legacy Of Rage (8/23) – Ronny Yu (The Bride With White Hair) teams up with the late, great Brandon Lee (The Crow) to deliver Hong Kong-style action in this tale of bloody vengeance. Hong Kong cinema staples, Michael Wong, Michael Chan Wai-Man, Bolo Yeung and Mang Hoi co star.
And there you have it! An unbelievable slate, full of must-buys. WARNING: Some of these releases are **UK ONLY** and, if you live in the US, will only be playable on multi-region Blu Ray players. Check listings before purchasing.
Now avaiable to pre-order from all good Blu-Ray outlets.
