Whatever plans there might be will have to wait for those pining for a sequel to the Anouk Whissell/Yoann-Karl Whissell/François Simard-directed dystopian sci-fi action adventure thriller, Turbo Kid. In the meantime, the RKSS trio also behind Summer of 84 are back as of late with news out of Variety for the production of We Are Zombies, an adaptation of Les Humanoïdes Associés’ comic publication “The Zombies That Ate the World” which launched in 2004 from author Jerry Frissen, and artists Guy Davis and Jorge Miguel. THE ROUNDUP Cast And Director Gather For A New Trailer + Global Launch Event

Director Kang Yoon-sung’s newest crime thriller, The Roundup, now gets a new minute-long trailer suited for international audiences. The footage comes tied to a global launch event that kicked off on Monday hosted by ABO Entertainment with a cast/director Q&A panel. Don Lee reunites with Kang following the film’s 2017 predecessor, The Outlaws, with Lee reprising his role as a tough-as-nails detective who tracks down a killer overseas while extraditing another criminal. Also starring are Son Seok-gu (Hit-and-Run Squad), and fellow The Outlaws cohorts Choi Gwi-hwa and Park Ji-hwan. The Roundup kicks ass in South Korean cinemas beginning May 18 from Kiwi Media Group. All the same however, neither is the shared sentiment of arduously watching a movie with such an extenuating runtime, although whatever the case may be, a film like The Battle At Lake Changjin is just the kind of film you would expect to see have three major directors on board. The Chen Kaige/Tsui Hark/Dante Lam-helmed Korean War period epic immerses moviegoers into this latest chapter from world history, one that’s become a major global box office hit as the most expensive mainland-produced Chinese film. RAGE PEAKS AT NIGHT Trailer Reveals New Crime Thriller Webseries From Director Matt Merritte

Following a late 2019 production start, Matt Merritte’s latest independent effort, Rage Peaks At Night, would have been his feature debut had it not been for the pandemic a year later. It certainly led to some restrategizing and restructuring, which now brings us a more flexible webseries format to coalesce Merritte’s new project some. At any rate, the webseries is due for this year, and an official trailer is online as of earlier this month which you can view above. Rage Peaks At Night centers on Julia (Lauren Biazzo), a woman searching for her brother with the help of an ex-Triad, whilst being pursued by her former occult crime family, The Apostles, led by Judas (Tom Caserto). While I haven’t seen all of his on-screen work, I definitely admire the time that Anthony “Treach” Criss has put in to his acting career since the 1990s. The first time I saw him in a film, however, was 2002’s Love And A Bullet, directed by Ben Ramsey and Kantz (the latter who sadly passed away last April). I was maybe 19 at the time and had a certain taste in direct-to-video films, and while this film wasn’t perfect, it was an okay watch for what it was. I wasn’t really aware of Criss’s acting stride at the time apart from this film, either. THE KILL ROOM Adds Joe Manganiello For Spring Production

Cameras are set to roll this Spring in New York and New Jersey for dark comedy crime pic, The Kill Room, according to Deadline’s Andreas Wiseman reporting on the addition of actor Joe Manganiello (Archenemy, Zack Snyder’s Justice League) to the cast. The film, first announced in the trades at the start of April, joins the actor with previously-cast Pulp Fiction cohorts Samuel L. Jackson and Uma Thurman. Penned by Jonathan Jacobson with Nicol Paone tapped to direct, The Kill Room charts “the story of a hitman (Manganiello), his boss (Jackson) and an art dealer (Thurman) whose money-laundering scheme accidentally turns the hitman into an overnight avant-garde sensation, forcing Thurman’s character to play the art world against the underworld.” The film will hit the Cannes market in May with producer Yale Entertainment’s sales and distribution banner, Great Escape, handling international sales and co-repping U.S. rights with ICM Partners, according to […]

KIRU: Yoshi Sudarso Slays In Stephen Ford’s New ‘Ghost Of Tsushima’ Fan Short

When Stephen Ford isn’t acting, he’s filmmaking. Just as he has with his latest short, Kiru, attributed to hit video game, “Ghost Of Tsushima”, it’s billed as a love letter to legendary authors like Kurosawa, Leone and Morricone and was just released on the Ascender channel on YouTube only a few days ago. The project was originally crowdfunded via kickstarter and shot last year with the intention of debuting it last August to coincide with the director’s cut launch of the Sucker Punch-developed game. Actor Yoshi Sudarso leads the vengeful ronin epic opposite Josh Han, James Tang, Manny Shih, Earl Baylon and Zedrick Restauro, and Hana Wu. Ford penned the short with story consultant Mari Takahashi, and with Sudarso laying out the action choreo. HIJACK: Apple TV+ Orders Real-Time Thriller Series Starring Idris Elba

Apple TV+ is partnering with actor Idris Elba (Sonic The Hedgehog 2, The Suicide Squad) on new thriller series order, Hijack, marking first project that will hail from Elba’s first-look deal with Apple TV+ and his Green Door Pictures signed in 2020. Told in real time, “Hijack” is a tense thriller that follows the journey of a hijacked plane as it makes its way to London over a seven hour flight, as authorities on the ground scramble for answers. Elba will star as Sam Nelson, an accomplished negotiator in the business world who needs to step up and use all his guile to try and save the lives of the passengers — but his high-risk strategy could be his undoing. I always get a little self-conscious about the big tentpole films, mainly because every other platform’s reviewed them and I’m usually on the last minute train catching up on either VOD or streaming. It is interesting, however, to see the reactions coming out on social media following the HBO Max release of The Batman, directed by Matt Reeves and starring Robert Pattinson and Zoë Kravitz. Indeed, not every film is everyone’s cup of tea, although it is fascinating that some people didn’t enjoy this latest chapter from Warner Bros.
