Got an affinity for Bram Stoker’s Dracula and fond of director Natasha Kermani? The Imitation Girl helmer’s latest, Lucky, is currently streaming on Shudder for those keen to see what the director’s applications are like as we venture onto her latest development: An adaptation of Joe Hill’s 2004 short story, Abraham’s Boys, for the big screen. The plot follows Max and Rudy Van Helsing, who know nothing of their father Abraham’s past and cannot understand his overprotective attitude and strange behavior. To make matters worse, Abraham is becoming increasingly more unhinged, paranoid, and violent. Kicking his way back to the screen is action star Jean-Claude Van Damme in the official trailer for The Last Mercenary, directed by David Charhon from a script co-written with Ismaël Sy Savané. A mysterious former secret service agent must urgently return to France when his estranged son is falsely accused of arms and drug trafficking by the government, following a blunder by an overzealous bureaucrat and a mafia operation. Consider this your latest invitation to what looks to be in another in a string of performances by a veteran action star who’s really come into himself in just over a decade. Talk about longevity. The Last Mercenary also stars Alban Ivanov, Assa Sylla, Samir Decazza, Patrick Timsit, Eric Judor and Miou-Miou, and launches on Netflix on July 30.

REFUGE: Voltage Takes World Sales For Renny Harlin Horror Thriller Now Filming

Principal photography is currently underway in Bulgaria for the new horror thriller, Refuge, from director Renny Harlin, and will be presented to buyers at the upcoming Marche du Film on June 21 with Voltage handling worldwide sales. Refuge centers on the horrific revelations that ensue when wife Kate discovers the truth behind her husband’s PTSD after he returns home, changed, from his tour in Afghanistan. The film stars Jason Flemyng (Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels), Raza Jaffrey (“Homeland”) and Sophie Simnett (Netflix’s “Daybreak”), with Johanna Harlin (Class Reunion 3) and Aston McAuley (20th Century Fox’s Rocketman) from a script by action sci-fi writer Ben Sztajnkrycer, with more cast TBA. Welp, if there’s anything that’ll guarantee butts in seats for the next and fourth chapter of the John Wick film franchise, it’s Donnie Yen. Mike Fleming Jr. reports at Deadline the martial arts superstar will lend his screenfighting prowess to the fray of director Chad Stahelski’s world of assassins and criminal politics. Yen joins lead returning actor Keanu Reeves in a role described as “an old friend of Reeves’ super assassin John Wick, who shares his same history and many of the same enemies.” Also starring is Japanese-British pop superstar Rina Sawayama. Actor Kim Min-suk has already begun his stride from a promising TV drama career to debuting in theaters for Lee An-gyu’s crime drama, A Special Lady. His latest role now lands him in one of his toughest yet judging by trailer footage making the rounds for Justice High helmer Chae Yeo-jun’s latest, Shark: The Beginning. The film is based the work of webcomic creators Kim Woo-seob and Woon, and centers on Min-suk in the role of Cha Woo-Sol, a teenage juvenile prisoner who enlists the training of an ex-MMA champion-turned-convict in order to defend himself against the facility’s latest inmate: the same bully whose actions landed him behind bars.
