KUNG-FU MOVIE: ‘Master Ken’ Joins Cast For Nacho Serapio’s New Meta-Martial Arts Comedy As Filming Wraps For 2027 Release
Actor and martial artist Nacho Serapio is set to star in Kung-Fu Movie, a new action comedy now in post-production from Víctor Hugo Antón in his directorial debut. Cameras began rolling on September 1, with filmimg locations primarily across Toledo, El Viso de San Juan, Yuncler, and Illescas, as well as several locations in Madrid, before wrapping principal photography at Dragonz Entertainment Studios in Yuncos this week.
Antón directs from a screenplay written by Serapio who stars as Jackie, a martial arts movie fan who suddenly finds himself living the kind of adventure he always dreamed about. As an unnamed fighter preparing to enter the “Battle Of Toletum” martial arts tournament, he must challenge the seemingly unbeatable fiancé of the woman he loves. To do so, he will have to face impossible odds, legendary masters and rivals, and his own limitations if he hopes to break the destiny others have written for them.
Budgeted at €1.8 million euros, Kung-Fu Movie marks a return to physical, absurd and reference-driven comedy for Serapio’s Dragonz Entertainment, following the label’s massive awards success on the studio’s launchpad action comedy feature, Balas Y Katanas (2023). The new movie is described as being in the tradition of similar meta comedies like Spaceballs, Scary Movie, Meet the Spartans, and Hot Shots!, and features martial arts and action sequences all performed by its cast without stunt doubles. The movie was also shot entirely in Spanish, and conceived with international distribution in mind.
Serapio is joined once more on screen by Balas Y Katanas co-lead José A. Marín who plays the Drunken Master. Also starring are Roman Rymar (Money Heist) as Jaro, Arnold Chon (Trouble Man) as Tang Po, Zhihan Chen as Chin-lu, and Akihiko Serikawa (Hard Coin) as Papa San, actor and influencer Matt Page (The Paper Tigers) in his signature online persona, Master Ken, the torunament’s reigning champion.
The film’s technical team also lists Iñaki Echeberria who serves as director of photography, Consuelo Robayo as production director, VFX director Mike Galeck, sound designer Marco de Gregory, and composer Luis Mas for the film’s original score.
The following is a statement from Serapio, Marín, Antón and the rest of the team on its completion and deeply personal meaning it carries: “This has been the craziest and most fun shoot we’ve ever done. We’ve been incredibly happy paying tribute to scenes and movies that shaped our childhoods. It has felt like stepping into the films we watched as kids and getting the chance to play inside that world, through comedy and through our love of martial arts. We can’t wait to see the finished movie, because we honestly think we’re going to laugh ourselves to death.”
The plan is to release Kung-Fu Movie in the new year – specifically on February 24, 2027 – in time for “The Battle of Toletum” World Martial Arts Championship in its fourteenth year. Serapio will next appear in Blood Brothers, a new martial arts crime thriller also starring Robert Samuels and Silvio Simac, which will screen at New York City’s Urban Action Showcase in November.
