BLOOD RUSH: ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ Actor Nathan Jones Joins Ranjeet S. Marwa’s New Thriller [EXCLUSIVE]

Nathan Jones (Mad Max: Fury Road) is confirmed to be the latest addition to Ranjeet S. Marwa’s forthcoming Indonesian thriller, Blood Rush. The film is currently in pre-production with Nick Khan (Redcon-1, Invincible) setting up the action sequences initial principal photography plans in Jakarta moved from June into July. News of the film officially broke in January with a starring cast, and a crowdfunding campaign that launched on Indiegogo. Zack Lee (Headshot, The Night Comes For Us) will make his lead acting debut playing Max, a grieving widower whose secretive new life in the occult turns out to be more than he bargained for. The 30th Cinequest Film Festival is set to kick off on March 3 in San Jose, California. The twelve-day event will also mark the world premiere for writer and director Aaron Pagniano’s feature debut, Sunset On The River Styx, screening on March 7. With baited breath, fans rejoiced when they learned of the return of actor Takeru Satoh as the famed ‘Battousai’ in Keishi Otomo’s newest live-action pivot, Rurouni Kenshin: The Final/The Beginning – a two part saga that ventures into the mystery of our titular reverse-bladed samurai’s scar, and his battles with a nefarious arms trader. On Friday morning, Japan offered the world it’s biggest glimpse yet with a short teaser which you can check out above. The new Kenshin tete-a-tete will open back-to-back on July 3 and August 7, respectively.

Well Go USA is on a roll this week in Berlin seeing what’s what in global cinema. For now, two more of their latest announcements are heading to physical media with New World and The Tiger helmer Park Hoon-jung’s suspenseful supernationl actioner, The Witch: Subversion, and Andrew Lau’s harrowing in-flight ripped-from-the-headlines survival adventure, The Captain. Award-winning actress Kim Da-mi stars in The Witch: Subversion, playing title role of a young girl ten years since having escaped a secure facility, who now in her budding teens suddenly finds her life in turmoil when mysterious people begin turning up. PENINSULA: Yeon Sang-Ho’s ‘Train To Busan’ Successor Lands At Well Go USA Amid Massive Sales In Berlin

Psychokinesis helmer Yeon Sang-ho’s forthcoming zombie follow-up, Peninsula, was acquired in Berlin by Well Go USA according to Screendaily‘s EFM coverage. The film, currently in post-production, serves as a shared-universe successor to his 2016 hit zombie opus, Train To Busan, and its corresponding animated Cannes trailblazer, Seoul Station. Produced by Redpeter Films and set four years after Train To Busan with twice that film’s budget, Peninsula stars Gang Dong-won and Lee Jung-hyun in the story of a former soldier who finds himself on a mission back into the ravaged country where there are still survivors. Contents Panda is repping the film in Berlin whose sales extend to well over a dozen territories globally outside the U.S., with Next Entertainment World (NEW) reportedly planning a post-Cannes summer release in Korea. Japan Society Wraps Akio Jissoji Program This Saturday

Japan Society is currently wrapping up its Akio Jissoji programme presenting some of his post-Ultraman works. These include his celebrated Buddhist Trilogy (courtesy of Arrow Films) from the 1960s, with screenings starting as if last Friday, and rounding out the series this Saturday on February 22. After making a name for himself in the late sixties as a boundary-pushing writer and director for the sci-fi television series Ultraman, Akio Jissoji went on to emerge as an equally innovative independent filmmaker. These four highly experimental and visually daring narrative features—all of which were released through the Art Theater Guild and scripted by Toshiro Ishido—offer transgressive interpretations of Buddhist philosophy and the existential problem of impermanence. CROSSFIRE: Sony Targets Live-Action Adaptation Of Popular First-Person Shooter With Smilegate

Trade sources have reported and confirmed announcements from Smilegate with word on a new live-action film adaptation in development for first-person shooter, Crossfire. The South Korean game developer will partner with Sony Pictures with Tencent Pictures co-producing and co-finance the project. The move into feature film territory with Sony marks the latest update in a previous deal made between Smilegate and Fast saga producer Neal Moritz’s Original Film. Hailing from production house Tecarat, director Takeshi Yashiro’s new stop-motion feature, Gon, The Little Fox, is set to open in Japan on February 28. The official trailer is online since January along with a poster below. Ever see a couple engage in some extra-level food fetish where methods of kissing resort to playing oral ping-pong with an egg yolk? Juzo Itami’s 1985 sophmore feature, Tampopo, certainly doesn’t beat around the bush with its kinetic wall-to-wall energy and flourish. The film frequently traverses through a myriad of characters and side stories, interludes on which the film heartily foundates, touching on exploits that are dramatic and harrowing, romantic, tragic and even sexual. Production is slated for the summer with Bluegrass Pictures CEO Joel Shapiro serving as producer. Redeemer centers on a former Catholic priest who has renounced his faith and religious ties to enact violent retribution against the gang who murdered his mentor and fellow priests. Alas, there is still a small window of time to catch up on the first season of Netflix sci-fi series Altered Carbon before its season two premiere, and the streamer is sharing a brief lookback reel doing just that. Picking up where actor Joel Kinnaman left off for season one, Anthony Mackie takes the stage as the new sleeve for timeless and ill-fated freedom fighter Kovacs, as he returns to life to solve more mysterious murders and ultimately reunite with the woman he loves. GTO: THE EARLY YEARS, Bikers, Babes And Beat ‘Em Up Bad Boys In The Official Series Trailer

Tohru Fujisawa’s popular GTO franchise comes back to life on Amazon Japan later this month in streaming live-action adaptation, GTO: The Early Years. The official trailer is online and featuring actors Kanichiro, and Daichi Kaneko, based on the longstanding manga series and spin-offs. The two star in the respective roles of badass Oni-Baku biker duo Eikichi Onizuka and Ryuji Danma, who set out to turn over a new leaf in life, only they’re gonna have to punch a few more faces first. Eiji Uchida (Between Men And The Gods) penned the series and serves as chief director, with Yusaku Matsumoto and Nobuhiro Suzumura directing episodes.
