Three years in the making since the online release of the winning sci-fi short, Code 8 is now a feature film reality with a late 2019 day-and-date release in tow from Vertical Entertainment. The project is a culmination of efforts by director Jeff Chan who helmed the short that launched the successful Indiegogo campaign in 2016 fronted by cousins, lead actor Robbie Amell and co-star Stephen Amell. Code 8 takes place in a world where superhumans comprise 4% of the human population and are heavily policed and forced into poverty. For an “electric” named Connor Reed (Robbie Amell) things are no different now that he’s on the run after committing a petty crime. Well this sounds exciting. While we still need a director, action thriller Die In A Gunfight is what’s next in line for actor Diego Boneta and actress Alexandra Daddario. The two will play star-crossed lovers in an action-packed tale where their romance finds itself upended by tensions between their fathers. Also starring will be actress Olivia Munn who has been attached to the film since it first cast Kaya Scodelario and Josh Hutcherson to star in 2017. Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari (Ant-Man and the Wasp) penned the film which shoots next month. Actor Will Poulter is joining actress Markella Kavenagh for Amazon’s Lord Of The Rings series which commences principal photography next year. Variety‘s Joe Otterson and Justin Kroll broke the news on Wednesday while details are being kept under wraps about the roles the two talents will play. Kavenagh, whose credits include TV shows such as Romper Stomper and My Life Is Murder, was attached in July. J.A. Bayona (Jurassic Park: Fallen Kingdom) is reportedly helming the series with Bruce Richmond (Game of Thrones) and Gennifer Hutchison (Breaking Bad), and writers Justin Doble (Stranger Things), and Jason Cahill (The Sopranos) all exec producing. Ben Wheatley will switch seats with Roar Uthaug to direct a sequel to Tomb Raider according to Deadline‘s Mike Fleming Jr. Cameras are expected to roll in early 2020 and will have actress Alicia Vikander reprising the title role based on the longstanding game centered on the heroic treasure hunter and survivalist, Lara Croft. Wheatley will direct from a script by Amy Jump, marking a continuing film partnership listing shared credits like Kill List (2011), Sightseers (2012), A Field In England (2013), High-Rise (2016) and Free Fire (2017). The two also have sci-fi actioner, Freak Shift, coming from Wheatley’s Rook Films banner which also stars Vikander, as well as Armie Hammer and Sasha Lane.
