Mass shootings are certainly a chilling subject matter. Far from being an escapist narrative in someways, leave it to writer and director Henry Dunham to scribe and craft together what aims to be worthwhile and intriguing thriller, tackling the issue with reverence and poise in RLJE Films’ The Standoff At Sparrow Creek. DHAKA: Chris Hemsworth Action Thriller Production Moves To Thailand

About a week after wrapping the India leg of production for action thriller, Dhaka, the new Chris Hemsworth-led pic is already underway in Bangkok, Thailand as of a few days ago as confirmed by Netflix. TAKE POINT: Ha Jung-Woo Is On The Brink In The Official Trailer

CJ Entertainment proudly unveiled its official trailer this week for PMC: The Bunker – otherwise opening as Take Point outside South Korea. This film definitely aimed for international appeal in its production and packaging with Ha Jung-woo (Kundo) and Lee Sun Kyun (A Hard Day) as the film’s principle key Korean talents, and with Ha taking center stage in both Korean and English. On the day of U.S. presidential election in 2024, Ahab (HA) and his team of elite mercenaries embark on a secret CIA mission to abduct Armed Forces Minister of North Korea in an underground bumker below the Korean DMZ. In a moment, the team gets caught under a crossfire that threatens to take the mission to the brink of the WWIII. Also starring are Jennifer Ehle (I Kill Giants) and Kevin Durand (Garm Wars: The Last Druid) with a release now set for December 26.

Robert Schwentke To Direct G.I. Joe Spin-Off, SNAKE EYES, For Paramount

Back in May, it was reported that Evan Spiliotopoulos (The Huntsman: Winter’s War, Bright 2) was penning a G.I. Joe spin-off that would focus on the silent, black-clad ninja protag, Snake Eyes. That script now has a director circling the project in Robert Schwentke (Red, Divergent Series: Insurgent and Allegeant). Justin Kroll at Variety brought the exclusive late Tuesday evening about the spin-off, based on the popular Hasbro property that took off in the 1940s as a comic strip and spawned a franchise that emerged in toy sales, a hit cartoon series and two live-action films to date. Actor and martial artist Ray Park principally emulated the role on screen for both the 2009 and 2013 films opposite Lee Byung-hun who played Storm Shadow – whose loyalty to Cobra Commander saw revelations sparking a major twist by the end of the movie. Lee Seung-won’s new film, Revenger, is just a few days from its release, and is back in the fray with a new behind-the-scenes look at the film featuring the cast, and with English commentary by co-star, actor and martial arts star T.J. Storm (Punisher: War Zone, Boone: The Bounty Hunter, Deadpool). Storm doesn’t delve into his character much, but he’s very much in his element with a strong, action-packed cast led by actor and martial artist Bruce Khan (The Last Eve, The Bridal Mask). All roads point to Marvel Entertainment as the week commences with a raft of news, now ongoing with a second official trailer for Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck’s Captain Marvel. It’s taken twelve years to get off the ground but the word now is that Marvel IP, Shang-Chi is finally poised for a feature film debut. Dave Callaham (The Expendables franchise, upcoming Wonder Woman 1984 and Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse 2) is penning the script with a search reportedly underway for a director of Asian descent. The news comes on the heels of a recent article at Inverse citing now-departed Stan Lee’s former boss, Margaret Loesch, who stated Lee had intended to develop a feature film adaptation starring actor and martial arts star Brandon Lee in the early 90s. Among several incarnations hailing as the brainchild of creators Steve Englehart and artist Jim Starlin, the Hu’nan province-born hero launched in 1973 in time for the kung fu craze brought on by the popularity of Enter The Dragon. RED LETTERS: Watch The New Teaser For Jim Klock’s Upcoming Horror

The first official teaser is up for upcoming horror thriller, Red Letters. The film is the first of a three-pic deal in acquisiton’s head, the film’s writer, director and star Jim Klock’s partnership with genre distributor Terror Films via his Code 3 banner. RED LETTERS tackles the classic theme of “good versus evil.” The film centers around two private investigators, who embark on an assignment, which leads them into the hands of darkness. Neither investigator is prepared for what lays in wait. Red Letters, is produced by Code 3 Films’ Klock along with Darrell Martinelli, Emily Adams, Kelsey Trainer and Jim Klock. Carter Ferguson’s DEAD END Brings Life To The Hitman Genre In Now-Episodic Fashion

Director and longtime fight coordinator Carter Ferguson has seen a rising of late with the numerous wins he’s amassed on the shortfilm front. With a sequel now in production, there’s pretty much no question as to the success of Dead End and that of actor Bryan Larkin’s foreseeable future following further credits in Ross Boyask’s Vengeance and Donnie Yen crime drama, Chasing The Dragon. Dead End definitely aims for edginess in its approach to the hitman genre, less so an action thriller than a well-focused, kinetic and stirring character study with a script that evenly matches pacing and performance caliber. Bao Tran’s THE PAPER TIGERS Fulfills On Kickstarter, Signals Forthcoming Stretch Goals

On Saturday, the official Facebook page for Bao Tran‘s upcoming film, The Paper Tigers, posted a new video announcing they’ve reached their all-or-nothing Kickstarter goal. “We have a bit of news for The Paper Tigers on our Kickstarter,” said producer Al’n Duong. “We have reached our goal!” The Paper Tigers began as a shortfilm proof of concept called The Challenger, starring Martial Club’s own Andy Le, and Unlucky Stars actor Ken Quitugua. The release of the short followed with the production of the ten-minute pitch that was funded via Fractured Atlas and presented to buyers at the Frontiéres Platform at the Marché du Film at Cannes earlier this year. Footage from that pitch was finally introduced in a preliminary teaser on October 29 when the Kickstarter launched to help crowdfund a total of $110,000.
