After garnering praise for her most recent work on The Zookeeper’s Wife starring Jessica Chastain, McFarlane, USA helmer Niki Caro is reportedly being eyed to direct Disney’s own upcoming live-action Mulan film. The film is one of two titles related to the Disney IP with the other being housed at Sony with Alex Graves directing for a late 2018 release. The report from THR notes that Caro’s hiring beats out directors Michelle McLaren and Wonder Woman helmer Patty Jenkins among those shortlisted, including hit filmmaker, actor Jiang Wen of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story fame. In the meantime, director Liam O’Donnell’s new sci-fi, Beyond Skyline, is now here to accomadate with sales art currently available, and visible over at worldwide sales rep Red Sea Media’s official website. The artwork is part of the pitch for the film over at EFM in Berlin which finishes running its course later this week. What’s even more annoying is when rumors gain traction for weeks and specifically with regard to actor Ben Affleck’s casting for the lead role in the forthcoming DCU follow-up, The Batman. The good folks over at Reel Deal Action have officially announced the trailer and release date for their debut upcoming martial arts action comedy, officially titled Plan B: Scheiss Auf Plan A. The title itself is interesting and if you know what it means in relation to the material, you can pretty much appreciate the linguistic asethetic behind it. It’s a nice entry into the film’s comedic millieu as it’s staged in Berlin with action trio Can Aydin, Cha-Lee Yoon and Phong Giang starring as a group of aspiring action stars who walk into the wrong place at the wrong time for an audition. LOI BAO: Cuong Seven Takes Flight In The First Teaser For Victor Vu’s New Action Thriller

Last we checked in with actor Cuong Seven, he was getting his kicks opposite actress Troung Ngoc Anh in Cuong Ngo’s action crime thriller, Truy Sat. Having made the case then, the actor and seemingly prominent rising action talent has since been seen on set with Blood Letter helmer Victor Vu and action producer Jason Ninh Cao (Iron Monk) for the new action thriller, Loi Bao, which boasts some big stunt sequences at great heights in the first teaser now rumbling online. The plot details are nil and underwraps but the teaser does offer several things here: English subtitles, a September release, and some upworthy production design to accomodate. Louis Koo’s Ambitious Sci-Fi, VIRTUS, Now Filming

The word is that sequels to Louis Koo and Sean Lau pairings, The White Storm and Out Of Inferno are currently in-bound. In the meantime, even more details are currently needed now that both actors have begun filming Koo’s latest sci-fi film endeavor, Virtus. The project has been a few years in the making while housed over at Koo’s One Cool Film banner which launched in 2013 and is also home to films Line Walker, Wild City and upcoming Meow from director Benny Chan. Two Hollywood films in with the hopeful prospect of another, it was just last month that he wrapped his latest pairing with director Wong Jing for the forthcoming Hong Kong crime drama, Chasing The Dragon. The latest trailer for Rupert Sanders’s manga/anime adaptation, Ghost In The Shell, finally arrived at the bottom of the weekend following its most recent television spot. It looks pretty solid and lo and behold, I woke up on Monday morning to the usual chorus of boos and cheers – boos, of course, with respect to actress Scarlett Johansson’s casting for the lead role as “The Major”, sans Kusanagi, interestingly. I’m not going to lie though. With at least one trailer and several promos online, the visuals and overall adherance to Shirow Masumane’s IP look greatly approving thusfar, and the second trailer beneath looks nothing short of that. Jennifer Lawrence Espionage Romance Actioner RED SPARROW Now Filming

Lionsgate Filming is reportedly underway for the production of Red Sparrow for 20th Century Fox with none other than Hunger Games franchise co-helmer Francis Lawrence directing actress Jennifer Lawrence. She is joined by Academy Award-nominated Dutch actress Thekla Reuten along with actors Joel Edgerton, Matthias Schoenaerts and Jeremy Irons. Lawrence plays a Russian intelligence officer forced against her will to become a ‘Sparrow’ and assigned to operate against a first-tour CIA agent only for her mission to spiral into an impossible love affair fueled by her accidental double-life. The film hails from Jason Matthews’s espionage novel of the same name and adapted for the screen by Eric Warren Singer and later by Justin Haythe.
