Daisy Ridley (the Star Wars franchise, Young Woman and the Sea, Magpie) will star in Dedication, a new action thriller from director Martin Campbell (Casino Royale, GoldenEye). Highland Film Group is co-financing the pic and handling international sales at the AFM in Las Vegas this week, as production readies for a Spring 2025 shoot in the Philippines and Europe. SIERRA MADRE: First Look Still Reveals Kiefer Sutherland In New Action Thriller, Additional Casting Announced

Emmy winner Kiefer Sutherland’s new action thriller, Sierra Madre, is making the rounds in Las Vegas this week with casting addition as of Tuesday. Production is underway in Colombia as well, with world sales firm Highland Film Group repping the film on the ground at AFM this week, showcasing a first look still from the film which you can view above. When Captain Jordan Wright (Kiefer Sutherland) and his squadron are granted leave from their mission to attend a crewmate’s wedding in Mexico, festivities are interrupted by a cartel’s murderous descent on the small village. THE RUNNING MAN: UK Filming Underway Rebooting The Dystopian Action Classic For Q4 2025

Production is now underway in the UK for Edgar Wright’s iteration of The Running Man. Hit Man and Twisters star Glen Powell is starring along with Josh Brolin, Katy O’Brian, Michael Cera, Emilia Jones and William H. Macy. An action classic reboot of the 1987 TriStar release with Arnold Schwarzenegger, Wright takes a page from “Richard Bachman” to provide something much closer to pennamed author Stephen King’s 1982 novel. Wright penned with co-scribe Michael Bacall and is producing alongside Simon Kinberg and Nira Park for the film’s November 2025 release. Based on the 1982 Stephen King novel, The Running Man centres around a deadly game show in which one man must outrun professional killers over 30 days to win a cash prize and save his sick child. Takashi Yamazaki Returning To Direct More GODZILLA!

“Production of a new Godzilla film by writer, director, and VFX supervisor Takashi Yamazaki has been greenlit” according to a new press announcement last Friday. Production details are underwraps, while news on the new movie comes following the latest push for this weekend’s re-release of Yamazaki’s Godzilla: Minus One, in select theaters, as announced on Thursday, marking the kaiju IP’s 70th anniversary. Godzilla: Minus One proved to be the highest-grossing Japanese film in U.S. box office history, and the #3 top-grossing foreign film in U.S. Box Office History, earning more than $115 million at the global box office. The film won the Oscar for Best Visual Effects, making Godzilla: Minus One the first film in Godzilla’s franchise history to be recognized by the Academy with a nomination or win. 100 Yards was screened and reviewed for the 48th edition of the Toronto International Film Festival, upon virtual invitation. Well Go USA is releasing the film in theaters and on Digital on Friday, November 8. It’s been wild having to wait this long before the film markets picked up on something (or anything) attached to the name of author and filmmaker Xu Haofeng. The man best known for whipping out some of the most artful and concentrated martial arts features to hit screens for well over a decade was all but a blip after landing back on radar with 2015’s The Final Master, when trailers arose for his 2017 actioner, The Hidden Sword, followed by stills and posters in 2019 for “Shi Yan Juan Tian Ya.” Both incumbent period flicks deserved better rollouts they were never given for reasons unbeknownst to this critic, and so it remains to be seen if either of those movies will ever […]

Tony Jaa is taking China’s Youku streaming app to task with the November 8 release of Striking Rescue. Desperado helmer Cheng Siyi directs the international action star for the story of a harrowing descent into the criminal for a Muay Thai master out for vengeance after witnessing the brutal murders of his wife and daughter. The film also stars Shi Yanneng, Hong Junjia, Phillip Keung, and Chen Duoyi. I reckon it’ll be about a year before this finds some space in the U.S. – namely Well Go USA’s Hi-YAH! streamer where Asian action titles like these are well suited for presentation. MUROMACHI OUTSIDERS: Well Go Acquires Yu Irie’s Latest Samurai Uprising Actioner For 2025 Release

Great news is abound for anyone fond of jidaigeki films and Japanese cinema in whole. That at certainly goes for director Yu Irie whose latest, Muromachi Outsiders, has just been snapped by Well Go USA for North America. Muromachi Outsiders is Irie, and based on the 2016 Shincho Bunko series of novels from multi-award winning author, Ryosuke Kakine. The cast is led by actor Yo Oizumi in his first action role, here as the savvy, vagrant leader of an uprising against the violent and corrupt powers that be in 15th century Kyoto. The film also stars “Naniwa Danshi” member Kento Nagao, and actors Akira Emoto, Wakana Matsumoto, and Shinichi Tsutsumi, along with Yuya Endo, Tomoya Maeno, Ami 201, Hannya, and Rina Takeda, along with Shingo Mizusawa, Kazuki Kitamura, Okito Serizawa, and more. MUTINY: First Look At Jason Statham In Latest From ‘Plane’ Director

Fans of “The Stath” will be sure to get some more action in 2025 with Mutiny, from Plane director Jean-François Richet. Actor Jason Statham revealed a first look at the film in an Instagram post on Monday with production already underway in the UK. After his billionaire industrialist boss is murdered in front of him, Cole Reed is set up to take the fall for the crime — leaving him on the run as he works to uncover an international conspiracy. Lionsgate took North American rights on the pic ahead of Cannes earlier this year and is releasing the film wide in theaters in 2025. Richet is directing from a script by Lindsay Michel and Plane scribe JP Davis. Munity also stars Annabelle Wallis, and hails from Mad River Pictures and Statham’s Punch Palace label. UNDER NINJA: Kento Yamazaki Is A Ninja On A Mission In The Official Trailer!

The official trailer is now live for Under Ninja, the latest screen adaptation based on manga lore from Yuichi Fukuda of Gintama and Hentai Kamen fame. Based on Kengo Hanazawa’s 2018 publication, the movie stars Kento Yamazaki as a listless, jobless, and unemployed ninja tasked with investigating a high school, a mission that turns out to be much more than he’s led to believe. The movie opens on January 24, and also stars Minami Hamabe, Shotaro Mamiya, Mai Shiraishi, Chihiro Yamamoto, Ryubi Miyase, Ryotaro Sakaguchi, Amane Okayama, and Mitsuru Harata. A slew of character posters have been made available as well in recent days which you can check out just beneath the player featuring the cast.

SALARYMAN KINTARO: Don’t Miss The Teaser For Ten Shimoyama’s Back-To-Back Live Action Adaptations Coming In 2025

Hiroshi Motomiya’s longstanding manga favorite, Salaryman Kintaro, is getting the live-action treatment come January with a two-part adaptation. Actor Nobuyuki Suzuki stars from a script by Shinichi Tanaka, for his own portrayal since the IP launched from the pages of Weekly Young Jump to TBS drama fruition in 1999, marking the first of multiple small screen iterations through 2010. Shimoyama’s Salaryman Kintaro takes off with Suzuki as a former biker gang leader and ex-tuna fisherman, who sheds his wild and reckless lifesfyle and takes the leap into the corporate arena as a salaryman. Part one, opening on January 10, will chronicle Kintaro’s “birth” as the inaugural first of the two releases. The sequel will focus on Kintaro as he tackles Japan’s corporate entities. Painter is the name of the latest action franchise hopeful from stunt-multihyphenate Garrett Warren (Road House, God Is A Bullet, Logan) who will make his feature directing debut. John Wick penman Derek Kolstad will write the script for a cast led by Amber Midhunter, and Alan Ritchson, according to Deadline’s Andreas Wiseman who has more: Painter centers on a young woman, trained from a young age, who must employ every skill in her arsenal to rescue her father after he is kidnapped. Ritchson and Kolstad are just two of the producers listed for the film which FilmNation is taking to buyers at the American Film Market in November. Jimmy Carlson and Lauren Bond are directing Drive Through Fire which has Red Sea Media launching world sales at the upcoming American Film Market in November. The 3CB production is already underway in Oklahoma with the banner announcing Michael Jai White for the cast along with Carlson, and co-stars Dan Bakkedahl, Jennifer Bond, and Kate Duffy. The story follows an addict war veteran turned rideshare driver who helps a terrified passenger escape a human trafficking ring serving wealthy clients. White will play a veteran detective who gets involved in the case while violent mobsters pursue the woman. Carlson and Bond are directing from Carlson’s screenplay.
