Currently the action fanbase is already aware of action star Scott Adkins‘s latest stint in Roel Reine’s Hard Target 2 over in Thailand. Consider it to be one of many, MANY steps taken for the cult action hero in the hopes of landing bigger roles, and none of it is all for naught as Adkins may have just landed something much grander in the process. For this, we check over on things at The Wrap with news of Adkins‘s involvement in director Scott Derrickson‘s new movie, Doctor Strange, which is currently filming in Nepal. Hopefully we’re not too far off from a trailer or the official shortfilm itself inspired by 7G Lab’s digital comic, Zambo Dende from director Riccardo Gabrielli R. In the meantime, we’re pretty much a year into a sprawling rollout of promotional photos and behind-the-scenes featurettes from the set, and if last week’s pre-visualized action piece is any hint, this one will be a promising peice of work. It was less than a month ago that Edge Of Tomorrow helmer Doug Liman was reported to be circling Twentieth Century Fox’s upcoming Marvel adaptation, Gambit, starring Channing Tatum. This week now, THR reports that Liman is finally well on the way to direct the film ahead of its October release next year. THR notes this particular film to be familiar territory for Liman in that his own previous films, The Bourne Identity and Mr. And Mrs. Smith, have each been troubled productions before. At any rate however, what’s important is that those films been successful, which is not to say by any measure that Edge Of Tomorrow wasn’t deserving of the same despite falling short at the box-office, because anyone with sense who has seen it will believe just the opposite. Yuen: MIRACLE FIGHTERS Remake Will Be Entirely New, Will Redefine Wuxia

Following our report on Tuesday, new reports are now lending at least one update worth noting in regards to the upcoming Kung Fu classic remake, Miracle Fighters. Tsui Hark is producing with Master Yuen Woo-Ping back at the helm and remaking the Kung Fu comedy which released in 1982 as his seventh directorial offering following an early career in film. As things stand now, the new film will reportedly tell an entirely new story, derivative from its original plot which sees two bickering Taoist sorcerors training a young desciple who wishes to pursue vengeance against the Emperor in a contest of magic. Film Business Asia writes of Yuen who reportedly says that “if the original film was meant to present an alternative form of wuxia film, the new film intends to redefine it.”. HUNTER KILLER Moves Forward With Relativity, Original Film And Millenium Films

The past year has proven pretty tumultuous for the folks over at Relativity Media and its Chairman and CEO, Ryan Kavanaugh. Financial upheavel stifled several of their forthcoming productions, including Hunter Killer, an adaptation of the 2012 novel, “Firing Point”, co-written by Don Keith and retired U.S. Navy Commander George Wallace as a follow up to their 2003 best seller, “Final Bearing”. Producers, Original Films’s Neal Moritz and Toby Jaffe and Relativity’s Kavanaugh were all set to go until Relativity ended up filing for a Chapter 11 back in August when news of missed loan payments surfaced. As of late, the company is slowly recovering, but there were no minced words from Moritz who, as recently as last week, lashed out against Relativity calling them a “fraud” and a “sham” whilst filing an objection in U.S. Bankruptcy Court to ascertain the fate of Hunter Killer. Right around the corner from the upcoming U.S. releases of films like Isaac Florentine’s Close Range and Wych Kaosayananda’s Zero Tolerance, action star Scott Adkins is looking ahead with the release of director William Kaufman‘s newest, Jarhead 3: The Siege. Director Jesse V. Johnson is currently making the rounds at festivals with his most recent crime noir, The Beautiful Ones. The film just screened in Buffalo, NY with a slot available for this year’s Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival at the Cinema Paradiso venue in Florida while UK-based Moviehouse Entertainment sustains international sales rights from now through next year. Alas, with any luck, we’ll be hearing back on some acquisitons and release dates soon. Photo: Instagram Action star Iko Uwais still draws a multitude of eyes for fans pining for more following his successes from 2010 and onward with martial arts drama, Merantau, and The Raid franchise. Since then with several appearances lined-up including Star Wars: The Force Awakens this December and next year’s Beyond Skyline, Uwais has already gone deep into his latest immersive role as an amnesiac on the run in the new movie, Headshot. Filming began earlier this month with Uwais leading the cast next to Chelsea Islan, Julie Estelle and Sunny Pang. SNOWPIERCER Gets TV Series Development, Bong Joon-Ho To Exec Produce

It’s a good week this week if you’re name is Bong Joon-Ho. The director’s most recent project, Okja, has just partnered with Netflix and Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment banner ahead of its 2017 release and marks the beginning of a new spurt of progress in the wake of his hit sci-fi success story, Snowpiercer. Incidentally, it turns out that Marty Adelstein’s Tomorrow Studios are optioning the rights to the film as they now see potential for a series according to THR. Sarah Connor Chronicles scribe Josh Friedman has been tapped the hopeful series based on the 2013 movie and its literary predecessor, “Le Transperceneige”, in which an apocalyptic Ice Age takes over Earth, forcing the remainder of mankind to survive on a train that encircles the world where class warfare ultimately erupts in a hail of bullets and blunt objects. Joann Sfar's THE LADY IN THE CAR WITH GLASSES AND GUN Gets A Seething New Trailer

Director Joann Sfar‘s new French-Belgian remake, The Lady In The Car With Glasses And Gun did come with a red-band trailer back in July as Wild Bunch was hosting it internationally. Magnolia Pictures has since attained the rights and with this, a new trailer has surfaced with a lesser-nude depiction of the seething drama that still captures the film’s seemingly untamed essence. Actress Freya Mavor leads the cast with a story that sees a beautiful woman who takes her boss’s car for a joyride on an alluring adventure, only to find herself implicated in a crime when people seemingly recognize her, in addition to discovering a dead body the trunk. The film reprises its 1970 iteration based, in turn, on Sébastien Japrisot’s 1966 crime thriller novel, and clearly Sfar‘s contribution intends on doing the original property justice. THE GIRL ON THE TRAIN Commences Filming

I have to admit that Tate Taylor’s new film, The Girl On The Train, wasn’t something I’ve been able to keep up on. However, when trade news started popping up with names like Emily Blunt and Rebecca Ferguson, in addition to the overall story and novel it’s based on, it did peak my interest. This definitely looks and sounds suspenseful with such a thrilling cast and now filming is underway. The details were just announced on Wednesday below: Principal photography has begun on the DreamWorks Studios film adaptation of the New York Times Best Seller, “The Girl on the Train,” it was announced today by the studio. Everyone Fights Back In The New U.S. Trailer For IP MAN 3

And like sweet nectar, it’s the small things in life that mean so much. The latest trailer for Ip Man 3 lends but a smidget of the action and drama that ensues, but packs it all in a collage of shots host to Danny Chan as the legendary younger Bruce Lee, along with Max Zhang, Thai action actor Simon Kuke, former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson, and international action star Donnie Yen in the title role. Chalk this up as another on the wishlist, folks! It’s coming to North America on January 22, 2016 theatrically following its Christmas release in Asia. Wilson Yip directs with choreography by the one and only Master Yuen Woo Ping and his team. Watch the trailer below!

I say this having just reunited over the weekend with filmmaker and action choreographer Joey Min who has been writing at Film Combat Syndicate off-and-on this year, and even contributing a review for this year’s Well Go USA release, Park Heung-Sik’s Memories Of The Sword, which I think is quite fortuitous in the wake of his most recent festival acclaim, The Destined King. With director Soi Cheang‘s 2014 fantasy flick, The Monkey King, grossing well over $180 million globally last year and drawing huge franchise potential, clearly the way was paved for a sequel. Thus, with actor Donnie Yen branching out, the mantle is now left to action choreographer Sammo Hung and actor and singer Aaron Kwok, no stranger to action films and certainly no less familiar to the mythology the new film continues, having previously portrayed the Bull Demon King in last year’s film opposite Yen. Following its teaser back in July, two new trailers have finally surfaced for acclaimed author and screenwriter Xu Haofeng‘s latest, The Master. Noted for his work behind such contemplative martial arts films such as Judge Archer and The Sword Identity, Xu’s new film doesn’t appear to steer too far from the same hard-edged tones in story and action which looks favorably good for fans thusfar. Rising star Fan Liao fan leads the film based on Xu‘s “Hiding Behind The Blade” anthology publication with a story centered on the early 20th century turmoil in China’s clandestined world of Wushu, and one man’s conflict of personal ethics with the rules of martial arts. Actor and action star Donny Alamsyah gets his turn with a leading role this month in director Ody C. Harahap‘s new action comedy, Skakmat. Perhaps aside the action with the laughs in mind is the impression left by actress Hannah Al-Rashid as one of the villains next to Cecep Arif Rahman in a big hat. Lots of screaming, kicking and punching here, and it’s all in good fun.
