RUN ALL NIGHT Gets New Stills With Liam Neeson And Joel Kinnaman

Actor Liam Neeson is eagerly kicking a lot of ass in the last several years. The Taken Trilogy wraps this weekend with the third film starring Neeson as a CIA operative whose retirement essentially died with every kidnapping and murdering asshole he’s had to kill in his career afterlife. Last year definitely proved to be a waiting period for fans patiently pining for any further news on the forthcoming thriller, Close Range, from Bleiberg Entertainment’s action genre production arm, Company B. Thankfully however, the film was finally announced to get back on track several months ago with principal photography nearly around the corner and several interesting bits and pieces of integral casting news have been trickling out and about. I’ve been compelled to go off the rails everytime Marvel adheres to a gimmick to sell director Peyton Reed‘s latest contribution to the third phase of the Marvel Universe, Ant-Man. Its pointless trailer teasers last week (Ant and “normal” sized) and the new official poster have left me shaking my head and hoping this moment would come sooner without me choking someone. I heard recently that Scarlett Johansson is set to play the protagonist Motoko Kusanagi, an elite agent of Section 9, the fictional counter-cyberterrorist public security organization set in a futuristic mid 21st century Japan. The previous actress in talks for the role was Margot Robbie, an Australian thespian that appeared in the film, The Wolf Of Wall Street with Leonardo DiCaprio. I am a big fan of Johansson’s, have been since her performance in Lost In Translation opposite Bill Murray as a recently graduated alumni on a trip to Japan. But what’s interesting about that film is that Johansson’s character was a young woman basically stranded in Tokyo, surrounded by a foreign place replete with alien customs and full of people who spoke a language she couldn’t understand. The fallout hasn’t been easy to deal with for fans since the mysterious debacle behind the stifled development of Mo’ Brothers films, Timo Tjahjanto’s The Night Comes For Us, and incidentally, Kimo Stamboel’s One Good Thing, the latter for which Redeemer star, action maestro Marko Zaror (pictured left, right of Arnold Chon) was supposed to be filming about now. Gladly however, this is not at all hampering Zaror‘s career as the film could very well possibly take off once again further somewhere down the line. Variety is reporting that actress Scarlett Johansson has officially signed on to play the lead role in the forthcoming live-action adaptation of author Shirow Masumane’s highly acclaimed 1989 cyberpunk manga, Ghost In The Shell, from Dreamworks. Johansson was in talks as recently as last October after The Wolf Of Wall Street and Suicide Squad co-star Margot Robbie left. Based on a script by William Wheeler, Johansson will play a semi-human cybernetically enhanced counter terrorist in a future world where society’s fixation on technological advancements have made it possible for most people to hack their way into virtually anything, anywhere, opening doors to all sorts of intrigue and corruption on a massive scale. Well, nobody within a range too distant from the production of J.J. Abrams‘s Star Wars: The Force Awakens saw this coming, but it appears that The Raid 2 principal stars, Iko Uwais, Yayan Ruhian and Cecep Arif Rahman will have roles of their own in the film when it releases this December. The production of director Chris Nahon‘s new tournament action thriller, Lady Bloodfight, is set to resume at some point between later this month and February. Not all the details are being handed out just yet, although we’ve already been graced with a number of viral photos dating back to late last year with Nahon joined by actress Amy Johnston, producer Bey Logan and action choreographer Hung Yan Yan and others. Nowadays, with filming almost right around the corner, Logan is currently unveiling four new promotional character photos for two of the film’s actresses, Kathy Wu as Wai and Jet Tranter as Cassidy. Indonesia’s film industry doesn’t always garner the support of big budgets for its more ambitious titles, but the vision is applied nonetheless when possible. It can be a noteworthy achievement depending on how you look at it, and you can certainly add writer and director x.Jo‘s latest offering with Garuda Superhero to that same list. The film took roughly ten years to evolve from concept to production with a few conceptual reels having went viral earlier on. Granted, if you’ve seen those reels and CGI tends to be a touchy subject for you, then this particular venture may not be for you. Promo Art for Marvel’s ANT-MAN Trailer teasers are a pain in the ass. The first one has been out for a while now ahead of the upcoming release of Marvel’s Avengers: Age Of Ultron. This one gets off a little lighter though because we’ve already seen a few trailers, and no doubt several more trailers and T.V. spots will be forthcoming to help set the tone being this is one of the biggest and highly anticipated sequels yet. Bearing in mind all of the hectic news late last year regarding hacking, the topic couldn’t have come at a better time with director Michael Mann‘s latest spotlight on the subject matter with the upcoming international thriller, Blackhat. Actor Chris Hemsworth stars in the new film that takes on real world grittiness and cyberworld intrigue and espionage, and we now have a new featurette making the rounds with segments by Hemsworth, Mann and actor Leehom Wang joined with the perspectives of computer and cyberterrorism experts to highlight developing the proper virtual backdrop for a film of this caliber. It certainly comes with great pleasure that I finally get to talk about the longstanding work from filmmakers Lester “Leroy” Nguyen, and Edmond Shum and the folks over at independent filmgroup, Rising Tiger Films. While I had known of them for some time, I’ve come into the new year with an ample opportunity to finally observe more of their material with an eye on several of their latest projects, namely their latest shortfilm crime drama, Black Scar Blues. Clocked in at about forty-five minutes, the shortfilm is the team’s biggest project so far, featuring Nguyen and Shum in a gritty, gruesome character study centered on a friendship between two low-level drug pushers, and the destruction that ensues when high ambitions deepen personal wounds.
