BACK TO THE PAST: Shots Fired In The First Teaser For Louis Koo’s Time Travel Feature Film Successor
The first teaser is out for Back To The Past, a feature film continuation of the 2001 TVB sci-fi serial novel adaptation, A Step Into The Past which starred Louis Koo as a VIP protection officer who finds himself trapped in the past after a time travel stint gone awry. Koo is joined by Jessica Hsuan, Raymond Lam, Sonija Kwok, Joyce Tang and Michelle Saram all from the original series.
Three years ago, Randy Lee, the only son of the richest man in Hong Kong, took part in a time traveling experiment back to the Qin Dynasty, to study the First Emperor’s elixir of life. But he was never heard from again. Today, his father Lee Ka-chun uncovered 2 mummies near an unexcavated area of the First Emperor’s mausoleum, with one of them holding a smart phone. When it was confirmed that the phone belonged to Randy and contained pictures of a bomb defuser called Hong Siu-lung, Lee Ka-chun persuaded Hong Siu-lung to go back in time and bring his son home.
The one big feature here is that it’s got Sammo Hung on board for the action choreography. The two last worked together on SPL: Paradox with Tony Jaa, Chris Collins and Wu Yue, which apparently had some more critical reactions than I myself initially thought. I enjoyed it as I have pretty much any film directed by Wilson Yip since S.P.L., and so going by the teaser above, it’ll be interesting to see how directors Ng Yuen-fai and Jack Lai were able to harness Hung’s stylish action as well.
Back To The Past is currently at FilMart on the sales slate for One Cool Pictures Ltd. alongside Koo’s other long-awaited sci-fi feat, Warriors Of Future, also directed by Ng.
