BANDIDA: A NÚMERO UM Official Trailer Unravels An Explosive Coming-Of-Age Brazilian Crime Thriller
Scroll down YouTube rabbit holes much? I do, and that’s how I found the first trailer for upcoming crime thriller, Bandida: A Número Um (or Bandida: Number One).
Production wrapped last summer after a five-week slate with cameras rolling in Rio De Janeiro’s Pavão-Pavãozinho community. The cast is led by recording artist Maria (a.k.a. Maria Bomami), who launched her singing career in 2017, and has had several stints in television, including TV Globo’s “Big Brother Brazil”.
Bandida: A Número Um is Maria’s feature screen debut, and is based on real events. The movie is directed by A Jaula helmer João Wainer, from a script he wrote with Patricia Andrade, Cesar Gananian, and Thais Nunes.
At the age of nine, Rebeca is sold by her grandmother to the bookseller who ran Rocinha. Disputed by bicheiros and drug dealers, the community is going through changes in power. Rebeca becomes the wife of the chief drug dealer and, with the death of her partner, his successor. The electrifying trajectory of crime, violence, drugs and love of a female drug kingpin in Rocinha, Rio de Janeiro in the 1980s.
Bandida: A Número Um got a bit of screentime for fans at last year’s CCXP in Brazil with Maria joined by a few of her co-stars on stage. The movie opens locally in June.
