BORIKEN: LAND OF THE BRAVE: Goons, Femme Fatales And Kung Fu In The Latest Teaser For Jose Manuel’s Action Comedy Short
My longstanding mission to help prop up actor José Manuel continues to this day, as it has since I first discovered his work for myself in 2015. His hustle remains an uphill climb, but there’s no doubt he’s made some strides along the way, delivering continuously solid and driven action and stunt work and acting to boot, all expressed and executed with the kind of exacting attentiveness to detail he’s grown to admire in bigger stars over the years like Jackie Chan.
Surely enough, there are echoes of this in his latest labor of love, Boriken: Land Of The Brave, with a teaser currently running online. Combining inspirations from Indiana Jones and the physical hi-jinks and fast-paced action of the Armor Of God films, Manuel places the two firmly at the center of his concept, telling of an adventurer in search of a long lost item – one that could hold the key to Puerto Rico’s enduring roots. Also starring are Brayito Lebron, Angel Vazquez, Dagmar Salgado and Angela Elliston, with Astor Mendez, Jose Martinez Díaz and Efrain Martinez.
Manuel’s efforts here did have feature film prospects at one point, though unfortunately short-lived and thus, rendering Boriken to short film status. At any rate, the final product was shot over two months non-consecutively in the summer, and is currently in post-production with Manuel applying the finishing touches. It’s a little over twenty minutes long and as I was able to check out a rough cut this past week, I can assert that it checks all the boxes for action fans curious to see how this delivers in that department.
A simple IMDb search is especially all you need to see what Manuel has accomplished over the last decade since landing on radar over the years with Puerto Rico’s first true martial arts thriller, El Testigo (The Witness). On that note, you’re welcome to subscribe to his newly-established Swashbuckler Studios channel as he ramps up and certifies his brand as an official independent film studio over the course of these weeks.
