BANSHEE Series Review: Blood, Bullets And Brooding With A Big Payoff
I seldom caught anything on television many years ago seeing as I had very little time for it. This didn’t stop me from trying when I could, and with shows like action crime drama, Banshee, running on Cinemax as part of its network line-up, I watched what I could and when. Sadly, I could never keep up with the series and not ever knowing the full breadth of the story, the big season three cliffhanger was all I knew of the show…at least until recent weeks.

QUANTUM SPY: Lewis Tan To Star In New Espionage Spy Thriller TV Adaptation
Just days away from making his appeal to North Americans everywhere through the release of Mortal Kombat from Warner Bros. Pictures this Friday, actor Lewis Tan is now placing his feet firmly in a new pilot for Quantum Spy, based on award-winning journalist and author David Ignatius’s 2017 W. W. Norton & Company publication.Variety‘s exclusive on Monday reports that Tan will star from a script by Dave Kalstein (USA series Treadstone, NCIS: LA, Quantico), as well as co-executive produce on the pilot from Boies/Schiller Entertainment, Anonymous Content, Flame Ventures and Tony Krantz (24). Anonymous Content’s Alex Goldstone will oversee the project alongside Zack Schiller on behalf Boies/Schiller, the latter which acquired the rights back from NBC where it was previously developing.Tan will play newly-assigned Chinese-American CIA officer Harris Chang, tasked to hunt down the traitor. Soon, he’s caught in an ever-expanding maze of spymasters, assassins and temptations turning the investigation into a personal obsession. Though action-packed and sexy, the property also gets to the heart of a timely discussion in content and across the country — what does it mean to be an American hero?Show details offered so far lend some pretty opportune terrain for Tan, as that last portion reads pretty striking; As one of the most outspoken and popular employees of his trade, he, among the likes of other talents currently making headway for better representation on the screen, seems definitely primed for the occasion, and the show’s concept sounds awesome and right up Tan’s alley as an entertainer.I’m glad he got Mortal Kombat when he did, personally. I won’t get to see it until next month after my second vaccination, but that ticket money has been sold, and I’m down for everything else that’s about to happen. That includes Fistful Of Vengeance which may arrive much later this year.
LOKI: See Everyone’s Favorite Trickster in the Trailer
They say (and by “they” I mean the people who create all those memes passed around on social media) that when you are a child, you identify with the superheroes, but when you are an adult, you begin to understand the villains. While I cannot fully agree with this because even growing up there were villains I could empathize with, I do think there may be some truth to it since some villains are just so likable! A good example of this is Loki.
THE SUBJUGATE: Aquarius Films, Anonymous Content To Partner For New Sci-Fi Thriller Series
Aquarius Films has acquired the production rights to ramp up The Subjugate, a new sci-fi thriller series, and will develop and produce a long-form sci-fi series in partnership with Anonymous Content. Tin Duck Award-winning author Amanda Bridgeman penned the original novel publication from Angry Robot Books publication as the first in a trilogy of novels, following suit last October with acclaimed sequel novel, “The Sensation”.The Subjugate takes place in 2040, when a series of murders sends shockwaves through the religious community of Bountiful, that has turned its back on technology and the modern world. The obvious suspects are The Subjugates, violent offenders who are transformed into town servants, known as Serenes at the Solme Complex. Sent from the city to investigate the crimes, two homicide detectives are met with open hostility. In a town where purity and sin, temptation and repression live side by side, everyone has a motive. But as the bodies mount up, the frustrated detectives begin to crack under the pressure. As their mutual mistrust builds, they set out on parallel investigations, which finally collide at the Complex – where they discover the distressing truth about the treatments taking place there.Update on the new television series comes after two years of positive buzz since the book’s launch, which gives the series plenty of momentum to build off of. Technothriller author and USA Today bestseller, Nathan M. Farrugia, described the book as “The Wire meets Blade Runner in an enthralling near-future crime thriller”; The Guardian said it was “a compelling seat-of-the-pants murder mystery and a fascinating inquiry into good and evil and the possibility of redemption”.Angie Fielder and Polly Staniford are producing the series for Aquarius Films, joined by Anonymous Content’s Luke Rivett and Ryan Cunningham.“The Subjugate explores topical themes of rehabilitation, recidivism and advancing technology in a captivating near-future science fiction thriller and is perfect raw material for a compelling TV series.” said Fielder and Staniford in a statement. “We’ve always been huge fans of the work that Anonymous Content produce and are thrilled to be partnering with Luke and Ryan to bring to life the rich and complex world that Amanda Bridgeman has created in her novels.”Rivett and Cunningham add: “Amanda has created an incredibly complex world that examines the bonds between good and evil and what happens when the lines between the two are blurred. We are thrilled to collaborate with Angie, Polly, and the Aquarius team to bring Amanda’s novel to life on screen.”Fielder is an Academy Award-nominated producer known for Lion starring Nicole Kidman, Dev Patel, and Rooney Mara. Staniford produced Vertical Entertainment’s Berlin Syndrome starring Teresa Palmer, directed by Cate Shortland (Marvel’s Black Widow). Recent Anonymous Content produced series include the Peabody Award winning series Dickinson which recently debuted its second season, Golden Globe nominated limited series Catch-22 directed by George Clooney, as well as the recently released series Paradise Lost, Home Before Dark, which just wrapped filming on its second season, and Defending Jacob starring Chris Evans and Michelle Dockery.Among her achievements, Bridgeman is also an Aurealis and Ditmar Awards finalist, and the author of several science fiction novels, including the bestselling space opera/military SF “Aurora” series, and alien contact drama “The Time of the Stripes”. She was a finalist in the Universal AU/Screenwest Pitch competition and a finalist in the AACTA Regional Landscapes Pitch in partnership with Screenworks Pitch. Her upcoming novel “Pandemic: Patient Zero” will be the first novel set in the award-winning Pandemic tabletop board game universe. Bridgeman is currently working on the third and final novel in the trilogy.
WAR ARTS SAGA: SPTV, Original Film To Develop Series Based On Bestseller Wesley Chu’s Upcoming Fantasy Martial Arts Novel Series

Best-selling author Wesley Chu’s latest work is now the subject of a series adaptation from Sony Pictures Television according to details reported via Deadline‘s Nellie Andreeva on Tuesday. The IP in question is War Arts Saga – a trilogy of novels which will be published each in one year of each other beginning in 2022 from Random House’s Del Rey shingle – of which the rights have been reportedly sold to Neal Mortiz of Original Film. This is damn good news for anyone keeping up with the state of martial arts action on the small screen, and you can believe the niche may very well be waiting with baited breath to see what lies ahead for The CW’s upcoming Kung Fu series revisal. It’s the result of a huge awakening with the successes of hit shows like Into The Badlands and Warrior, which our contributor Kyle Wong spent weeks writing about in review of each episode. Even the following premise which you can read below sounds like something totally worth keeping a finger on the pulse for with this project: War Arts Saga is set in a world where martial arts are magic, and a grandmaster takes a spoiled would-be hero under her wing to fulfill his destiny of defeating an immortal god-king and ending a centuries-long war. It’s a wide-ranging, grounded fantasy epic that constantly subverts classic fantasy tropes by pitting themes of prophecy, religion, and destiny against the absurdity and reality of life in a fictional 2nd Century world. You have to give it to Chu for earning his place here. Number 1 with the NY Times and an award-winning author with ten books published following his “Tao” series which began in 2013, Tao spin-off book series “Io” years later and “The Eldest Curses” series after that – the latter on which he co-wrote the second book with Cassandra Clare, focusing on a 400-year-old bisexual half-Asian warlock, set in the popular “Shadowhunter” universe. How’s all that for putting diversity into practice? A trend if there ever was!Friend and contributor Christina Ortega Phillips has been the biggest voice on this platform when it comes to novels, particularly of the fantasy and horror variety, and so I haven’t spoken to her yet about this, and this latest might even be news to her, at that. To add to the validity, Chu is bringing the goods to the show as an executive producer on War Arts Saga, joining a team of other EPs that includes Jason Ning (Lucifer, The Expanse) who is also writing and showrunning, and Uta Briesewitz (The Wheel of Time, Westworld, Stranger Things) who is also directing. Moritz will also exec produce as will Original’s Head of TV Pavun Shetty.

WAYNE Bashes Heads On Amazon This November
Once a prospective YouTube Originals/YouTube Red property, deadpan road adventure teen action comedy, Wayne, is now on the prowl with an official trailer ahead of its November 6 Amazon Prime premiere. The show was definitely a hit, which is more than can be said for YouTube’s attempt at being a streaming competitor, and it speaks inherently to the fact that neighboring third season-bound Cobra Kai is an even bigger hit now than it ever was. Hm.
GODZILLA: SINGULAR POINT: Netflix Targets 2021 For New Kaiju Animated Series
Netflix is returning to Kaiju territory next year with Godzilla: Singular Point, as announced by the streamer on Tuesday evening. bones and Orange, the animation studios behind My Hero Academia and Beastars, respectively, are collaborating on the project, combining hand-drawn and CG animation styles to feature brand new characters, with none other than director Atsushi Takahashi (Doraemon the Movie 2017: Great Adventure in the Antarctic Kachi Kochi) sitting at the helm.
SERIES THEORIES: What Lies Ahead For COBRA KAI: SEASON THREE?
Whilst most people were seemingly fixated on Game of Thrones in 2019, I found myself ignoring GoT in favour of the second series of Cobra Kai. The brilliance behind this series is that it was able to respectfully carry the lore of the original film trilogy, without trying to rewrite anything. Therefore it managed to retain the long standing interest in the movie, and help the audience explore real life after and beyond the All-Valley Karate Tournament that created both winners and losers.
