It is a role that actor Michael Jai White himself has publicly expressed he has wanted to do for his entire career, a statement which is a plus for any fan of the actor or the martial arts action genre waiting for the release of his latest international action thriller, Favela. On Friday, White continued pumping up the excitement on Twitter by sharing a new still grab of the film, announcing its upcoming screening dates at the American Film Market on November 7 and 9 at the AMC Santa Monica 2 in California.
For Favela, the first in a new movie franchise in the form of Codename: Falcon, White will take the lead as a self-destructive former U.S. Marine suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, who uncovers a Yakuza-led criminal network of drugs, prostitution, and police corruption in the underbelly of Brazil while on a mission to avenge the death of his sister. Following the hopeful success of Favela, Moonstone Entertainment has since announced the production of 1-2 films every year that will see White‘s return as the franchise character, John “Falcon” Chapman, traveling around to exotic locations to do the foreign ministry’s dirty work.
Favela will also star Laila Ali, Neal McDonough and Masashi Odate. The film is written by Y.T. Parazi and directed by Ernie Barbarash, with fight choreography by Larnell Stovall. Other movie updates will be making their way in the press soon followng the American Film Market which will last from November 6 through November 13.
