GLOW: Netflix Greenlights More Bodyslams And Brutal Comedy For The Hit Series
The first episode’s very intro of Netflix series, Glow, is a terrific sampling of the world you’re about to enter the second Scandal’s “The Warrior” starts playing. It’s an era reintroduced by Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch (Nurse Jackie) with actress Alison Brie starring opposite Betty Gilpin for the story of a interwoven tales of friendship, loyalty and betrayal amid one struggling actress’s stoic quest for career stability on the set of a longshot all-female wrestling show with a washed-up producer and a rag-tag, colorful line-up of freshmen overnight TV athletes.
Having taken its cues from David McLane’s short-lived, original real-life 1986 cult-popular female-centric program, Flahive and Mensch got what they came for with Glow upon its ten-episode premiere back in late June. They got viewers. They got an audience and now they’re getting a second season set to continue what is so aptly described as “a Cinderella story with bodyslams”. Orange Is the New Black creator Jenji Kohan and Tara Herrmann are executive producing alongside Flahive and Mensch, who will serve once more as showrunners.
