GOLDEN KAMUY: THE ABASHIRI PRISON RAID Trailer Locks Down A July Launch On Netflix!
It was a matter of time before we heard from Netflix on its continued run with all things Golden Kamuy since the first film launched on the platform in 2024. Followed by an episodic sequel release later that year, fans of the live-action adaptations can now program their sets for July 13 with the release of the next chapter, Golden Kamuy: The Abashiri Prison Raid, exclusively on the streamer.
Kenji Katagiri, who directed select episodes on the sequel series, directed the new movie which reunites Kento Yamazaki and Anna Yamada for the story of a Japanese soldier known as “The Immortal Sugimoto” who teams up with a young, vengeful Ainu survivalist named Asirpa on a quest to find a hidden cache of gold. Throughout the saga, the search becomes a deadly race from all competing sides to see who can get to it first, with the gold’s whereabouts located only on the tattooed backs of prisoners who were once residents of Abashiri Prison, the next stop of this epic adventure.
The franchise is based on Satoru Noda’s award-winning Seinen manga out of Weekly Young Jump which ran from 2014 through 2022. Also starring are Hiroshi Tamaki and Hiroshi Tachi, as well as Go Ayano, Asuka Kudo, Shuntaro Yanagi, Akihisa Shiono, Yuma Yamoto, Ryohei Otani, Maryjun Takahashi, Yuki Sakurai, Katsuya, Taishi Nakagawa, Kazuki Kitamura, Hiroyuki Ikeuchi, Katsumi Kiba, and Arata Iura.
Katagiri directs from a script by Tsutomu Kuroiwa (Kingdom franchise), with Ainu language consultation by Hiroshi Nakagawa, and Debo Akibe who co-starred in the first film, and music by Yutaka Yamada. Production hails from CREDUS Inc, with exec production by WOWOW and Shueisha.
