While just a few months shy from the hopeful start of production for
Baf Sjamsuddin‘s upcoming action trilogy kickoff,
Garuda 7, at least three of its stars were newly unveiled in new promotional photos for director
Anggy Umbara‘s latest sequel endeavor,
Comic 8: Casino Kings.
Umbara directed the first film which released back in January to local commercial and critical acclaim, as well as film festival appeal throughout the season at the time. Now, Falcon Pictures is currently in production for the second installment which is due next year.
Featured in the three promo shots are veteran action stars Barry Prima, Willy Dozan and George Rudy as the main headlining villains of the new film, aimed further at setting the tone for the action-heavy sequel compared to from that of its predecessor, Comic 8. The new film will also headline a variety of new and returning cast members, including that of its comedic listing, featuring Pandji Pragiwaksono, Ernest Prakasa, Indro Warkop, Mongol, Kemal Palevi, Arie Kriting, Babe Cabita and Fico Fachriza; Pencak Silat expert and award-winning actress Prisia Nasution making her action debut as an Interpol agent, opposite fellow Pencak expert Hannah Al Sayid, with actress Sophia Latjuba and Lydia Kandau, and The Raid co-stars Donny Alamsyah and Ray Sahetapy rounding out much of the cast.
The first film centered much of its cast on the story of eight people from different walks of life who incidentally cross paths on the same day they all decide to rob the same bank. As for the new film, not much is being said about the plot at the moment, although the production appears to be one of the most ambitious ones as of late, boasting a bigger budget to accomodate its doubled casting from that of the first movie with bigger set pieces, scope, and action sequences larger-in-scale, a few of which will be induced with CGI work as well.
Further updates are still pending following the launch of principal photography last week. Prima, Dozan and Rudy are expected to start Garuda 7 this January, while Nasution and Al Sayid will be applying their talents to the upcoming production of Timo Tjahjanto’s The Night Comes For Us.
Filming is expected to wrap for Comic 8: Casino Kings near the end of next month. In the meantime, you can check out all three photos, along with a flurry of other photos featuring much of the main cast with names attached. Stay tuned for more info!
