Director Motoki Katsuhide is taking cues from Saeki Yasuhide’s Futaba Bunko novel series and its three-volume NHK TV series follow-up for the new film, Inemuri Iwane. This one will surely be given an international renaming going forward while the first official teaser has arrived ahead of its May 17 release.
The film centers on Iwane and his two friends, Kinpei and Shinnosuke, all who train at the same dojo, and Kinpei’s younger sisters, Shinnosuke’s wife, Mai, and Iwane’s fianceè, Mao. Blood begets blood when Kinpei kills Shinnosuke for murdering Mai in a jealous rage, forcing Iwane’s hand in a duel in the wake of an already-decimated brotherhood.
Front and center on the artwork below is actor Matsuzaka Tori (The Blood Of Wolves, Sanada 10 Braves) who leads the cast for a film adapted for the screen by Fujimoto Yuki.
