Joe Taslim Goes MMA In A New Fight Choreo Clip For THE NIGHT COMES FOR US

While director Timo Tjahjanto continues to promote his latest co-directorial action/horror effort with fellow “Mo Brother” Kimo Stamboel titled Killers, things are still set in motion for Tjahjanto‘s own solo contribution as helmer of the latest collaboration between Merantau Films and XYZ Films for The Night Comes For Us. Some details have already been ironed out, including the plot, where we rising international action star Joe Taslim (The Raid, Fast And Furious 6) return to form, this time portraying a Gangland Enforcer named Ito who comes home to Jakarta after a stint abroad, and is forced to deal with internal war brewing in his own local crime family while plotting its own campaign of territorial expansion.

In addition, we also learned in November that while actor Yayan Ruhian will be starring in the film, filmmaker Gareth Huw Evans (The Raid, The Raid 2: Berandal) has been previously reported to be helping direct the action with actor Iko Uwais not starring, but designing most of the fight sequences for the film, blending Mixed Martial Arts with Indonesian martial arts style, Silat, incorporated with Taslim‘s own familiar territory in the style of Judo. And a week later, Uwais, Taslim and Ruhian shared several photos of the three engaged in preparing the fight work.
At any rate, while photos are enough for some to satisfy a good tease, others do tend to prefer video. So what better way to tease early pre-production than a short Instagram video by the director himself? Cue the pre-viz action footage!

It should be noted that Tjahjanto also has some extra surprises up his sleeve, indicated by none other than a photo (below) shared late last month, with two silhouettes training in what looks likely to be the appearance of two mysterious female actresses lining up for a role in the upcoming crime thriller. That news will have to wait until further notice as pre-production moves closer to principal photography, which is set to begin in either March or April.

The Night Comes For Us currently has worldwide distribution with release dates and production details pending. In the meantime, Tjahjanto‘s Killers will debut this month at Park City At Midnight for a four-night run at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah prior to its releases in Japan and Indonesia on February 1, 2014 and February 6, 2014, respectively.

Stay tuned for more detailed information as time rolls on.
