Pecuiliar pictures swirling online late last year drew enough concern and eventually some confirmation of actor Lawrence Fishburne’s involvement in the now titled John Wick: Chapter Two. As to what capacity here still remains to be seen, but Fishburne himself is lending a few words to tease his involvement in Lionsgate’s budding R-rated action franchise reuniting the actor with the film’s star, Keanu Reeves since battling the mechanization of Earth in The Matrix Trilogy.
Collider‘s most recent interview picked up on the details revealing that Fishburne himself sought to a part in the sequel under helmer Chad Stahelski since watching the first film in 2014. “Yeah, Keanu and I have remained friends and we saw each other and I told him I watched the movie and loved it.”, said Fishburne. “He was about to start the movie again and I was like, “Yo, man, you gotta talk to Chad and tell him that your boy Fish wants to come get down,” because I really wanted to be a part of it. They found something for me to do, and it was really cool.”
The sequel will ultimately continue the world-building affair with Reeves reprising the title role. Whereas the first film saw him avenging the new life he sought after before it was destroyed by his former employer’s son, reports have consistently stated the sequel would continue venturing into a key aspect of the John Wick universe surrounding the exclusive and private assassins’ luxury hotel, The Continental.
Fishburne’s role delves a little further that, as he so states the following: “I’m not part of the Continental world, no, but I’m a part of another world that exists inside the world of John Wick. That wasn’t something that was clear in the first movie. It’s like a part of his world that exists but you wouldn’t know about it, and it won’t really be revealed until the second movie.”
Fishburne also stated that there would be very little of him involved in the action. That said, we could probably go on and on speculating but let’s face it: Whatever is being planned that we don’t fully know or at least have a hint of won’t be made clear until the film releases on February 10, 2017, so let’s we see a proper teaser and images to get things going soon.
Ian McShane, John Leguizamo, Bridget Moynahan, and Lance Reddick return to star with the new additions of Common, Ruby Rose, and Peter Stormare.
