KUNG FU HATCHET-MAN VERSUS THE ZOMBIE SLAVERS FROM BEYOND SPACE: Peep The Poster For James Lew’s Final Sci-Fi Action Comedy Bow
Director Mark Steven Grove revealed the latest poster for action sci-fi comedy, Kung Fu Hatchet-Man Versus The Zombie Slavers From Beyond Space. Grove collaborates once more with actor/martial arts star James Lew since their pairing on 2014’s Legacy Of The Tengu with Louis Mandylor and co-helmer Michael Bird.
Kung Fu Hatchet-Man Versus The Slavers Beyond Space, which hails from Grove’s Fusion Factor Films, also marks Lew’s final performance following his death at the age of 73 at the top of the week. Billed as “a wild blend of slapstick humor, stylized kung fu, and retro sci-fi nostalgia,” the film follows Lu Chow (Lew), a blind kung fu master frozen in the funk and philosophy of the 1970s, and his loyal students who become humanity’s only hope when extraterrestrial slavers land on Earth, and begin infecting the locals with parasitic symbiotes that twist them into mindless, undead-like thralls.
Also starring are Sara N. Salazar, Cameron Setsuji Carter, Nate Coyle, Heath Heine, and Kevon Ward. The film is produced by Tane McClure (Aliens And Dragons) with a script Grove and Lew penned while sharing the helm.
“James and I set out with one simple goal: make something fun. A wild martial arts comedy that captured the outrageous spirit of 1970s kung fu cinema, mixed with slapstick humor, colorful characters, and an unexpected science-fiction twist,” said Grove in a tribute to the action star and stunt specialist on Thursday. “It is one of the final opportunities we had to create alongside James Lew. To write together, direct together, laugh together, and watch James step in front of the camera one more time as the kind of larger-than-life character only he could bring to life.”
Grove added, “James spent a lifetime making audiences believe in heroes, villains, warriors, and impossible fights. With Kung Fu Hatchet-Man, he simply wanted to have fun doing what he loved. And we did. Now the film will forever carry a little of his humor, his martial arts, his creativity, and his unmistakable spirit. One final adventure with the DragonMaster.”
