Are you ready to re-live the timeless, stoic and heartbreaking tale of a heroic underdog? Then you’re more than welcome to either rewatch Robert Zemeckis’s Forrest Gump, or get ready for its epic, big-scale Hindi remake from director Advait Chandan who now rejoins his Secret Superstar star Aamir Khan.
That remake would be Laal Singh Chaddha, which opens this August from Paramount Pictures. Atul Kulkarni (Naam Hai Akira, Junglee, Wild Dog) adapted Eric Roth’s original screenplay for a wholly Indian setting with actress Kareena Kapoor (Ra.One, Good Newwz), playing the romantic equivalent to Robin Wright’s Jenny in the original film.
The trailer above definitely goes out of its way to capture the spirit of the original film, including shots of our protagonist in all his respective phases in life from his upbringing and being made fun of, to becoming an accomplished war hero and even fighting for a doomed romance. I’m curious as to what the reactions will be when the film opens this year but feel free to @ me on Twitter with your opinions.
