It’s been two years since Yo Moriyama’s Megalobox launched on screens commemorating the 50th anniversary of “Ashita no Joe”, and news of a second season has been stirring about. As of this week now, fans of the show and the Chikara Sakuma-penned manga from which its based, have since born witness to a teaser released online from TMS Entertainment for the Spring launch of Megalobox 2: Nomad.

From the get-go of season one we meet Joe, a.k.a. Junk Dog (Yoshimasa Hosoya), a prize fighter in a futuristic Japan where professional boxers use a special type of exo-skeletal gear to enhance their human strength and power. Forced to live among the unlicensed citizen in the slums and deserts, we watch as Joe rises to the occassion as a gearless fighter with the help of Sacchio (Michiyo Murase), an orphaned young boy with a knack for machinery and boxing strategy, and Nanbu (Shiro Saito), an alcoholic coach with more than his fair share of issues.

The series ultimately takes a turn for the explosive as Nanbu makes a daunting sacrifice for Joe’s sake as he dares the status quo to reach the city’s Megalonia tournament. Season one is currently streaming on multiple platforms here in the U.S. so you’re more than welcome to catch up, just as season two ramps up its Japan premieres on TOKYO MX and BS11 beginning in April.

In the end, “Gearless” Joe was the one that reigned as the champion of Megalonia, a first ever megalobox tournament. Fans everywhere were mesmerized by the meteoric rise of Joe who sprung out from the deepest underground ring to the top in mere three months and without the use of gear. Seven years later, “Gearless” Joe was once again fighting in underground matches. Adorned with scars and once again donning his gear, but now known only as Nomad…

Also returning to the voice line-up is Hiroki Yasumoto in the role of former champion Megaloboxer, Yuri.

Megalobox 2: Nomad is written by Katsuhiko Manabe and Kensaku Kojima, with key character designs by Ayumi Kurashima and sub-character designer Naomi Kaneda, and a score by mabanua. The show hails from TMS Entertainment Co., Ltd., and is produced by MEGALOBOX2 Project.
