Michael Chuah’s latest film, Red Storm, could be a high point after turning his attention to the action genre following his 2006 horror, Seed Of Darkness. That being said, the official trailer is finally here and it speaks loud and proud to The Raid crowd given the style and action set pieces we’re now getting a taste of this week as we approach its dated March 28 release in Malaysia.
Chuah is joined by actor Zhang Bo Nan among a raft of Chinese and Malaysian talents for the story of Hong Ping, an ex-soldier-turned-bodyguard hired to protect a rich tycoon’s daughter. When she’s kidnapped by human traffickers, he teams up with Ah Bu, a down-on-his-luck cop whose newest mission will soon bring him full circle with the people who slaughtered his team and his wife in a failed op months earlier.
That’s the wind-up and the pitch for you, and with any luck, this will help bolster Michael Chuah’s profile on the world stage. Having once been one of three candidate for a possible North American starring debut before passing it up and after doling out feats such as Fist Of Dragon (2011), Special Forces (2016), Call Me Agent (2018) and with another on the way titled Stormbreaker, I’d say its high time folks in the west took notice.
