Writer/director duo John Mathis and Jared Sprouse are rolling out their edgy new coming-of-age drama, Midnight Runner, on multiple digital platforms starting on June 14. Global Digital Releasing has acquired worldwide rights and will release the new movie starting with Prime Video and Vudu, and continuing with iTunes, Tubi TV and iFlix among others over time.
Actor Ben Weinswig plays Ian, a quiet loner who can’t seem to escape his mysterious and violent past. After befriending the leader of a high school gang with deep ties to a corrupt cop controlling him from the shadows, Ian soon finds himself enveloped into a murder conspiracy and must take stock into who his real friends and enemies are, including his newfound relationship with a local girl who will do anything to survive.
“The myth of a loner coming to a new town and getting mixed up in the wrong crowd is a powerful one.” say Mathis and Sprouse on tackling the film’s subject matter. “Also, we thought setting it within a high school, with a neo-noir and French new wave influences, was something that has rarely been seen before. So, we willed it into existence with the help of the cast and crew.”
Also starring are Mekhai Lee, Julia Cryster, Noah Crandell, Tavis L. Baker and Dawn O’Donoghue.
