The latest production of Kubo Shigeaki‘s HiGH & LOW: The Story Of S.W.O.R.D. may be a little under a year from its forthcoming feature film extension. On that note, while host to a whole slew of content that includes a television premiere and other content, the latest ensemble action project by Japanese supergroup, Exile and executive producer Exile Hiro are digging their feet well into the promotional process; Their social media activity is key in this regard, so if you follow J-pop and entertainment at all and have an instagram account at best, you’re in for an eyefull of easter eggs on the project from now through next year.

In the meantime, footage is already rolling out with at least one teaser having gone viral. This week now marks the release of the full trailer ahead of this month’s television premiere propelling viewers into the world of HiGH & LOW: The Story Of S.W.O.R.D. – where J-pop stars take their craft to the world of action and drama as five gangs hell-bent on total dominance over one another. Billed solidly as the world’s first comprehensive, interactive entertainment project from LDH, inc. in association with NTV, the plot itself reads akin to a mixture of elements from films The Warriors and Crows Zero, and of course, Sion Sono’s Tokyo Tribe.
SYNOPSIS:

The legend begins at a certain town that used to be under the rule of a legendary organization called“Mugen”. And within the ranks of that domineering organization were two legendary brothers – the Amamiya Brothers, who were proved to be both brutal and unbeaten during that time. 

Yet somehow the Mugen was suddenly dispersed during a fierce battle… And in the aftermath of the chaos are five organizations that aim to take control of that area. As a result, this area came to be known as SWORD, an acronym attribute to the names of the five organizations. And in that area dwells a gang that goes by the name “G-SWORD”. These 5 organizations include: “Sanno Association” and its second-generation Sanno Shouten brawlers, the alluring white demons known as the “White Rascals”, the dark and brutal “Onija High School”, the ghosts on the ruthless street aka the “RUDE BOYS” and the family of vengeful destroyers of “Daruma Hooligans”.  

These 5 gangs will put their pride on the line as they engage in a fierce battle for dominance! However, the plot thickens… a mysterious group called “MIGHTY WARRIORS” appears. And the question that everyone is asking now is, are they enemies or allies? What fate awaits this town?…

The first phase of HiGH & LOW: The Story Of S.W.O.R.D. premieres later this week on NTV with exclusive director’s cut viewings on Hulu for all ten half-hour epsiodes, while the remaining phases move into a new album release, live concert showcases and manga prints all leading up to a feature film releasing on July 16, 2016, courtesy of Shochiku.
