David Lowery’s medieval fantasy feature, The Green Knight, has a new release date set for July 30, 2021, following its removal from SXSW and from its May 2020 release due to the pandemic. Dev Patel, Alicia Vikander and Joel Edgerton star. “An epic fantasy adventure based on the timeless Arthurian legend, The Green Knight tells the story of Sir Gawain (Dev Patel), King Arthur’s reckless and headstrong nephew, who embarks on a daring quest to confront the eponymous Green Knight, a gigantic emerald-skinned stranger and tester of men. Gawain contends with ghosts, giants, thieves, and schemers in what becomes a deeper journey to define his character and prove his worth in the eyes of his family and kingdom by facing the ultimate challenger. Stranger Things and Enola Holmes star Millie Bobby Brown will star in the Russo Brothers’s pic, The Electric State for Universal Pictures. The Russos will reunite with the writing team behind all-four of their Marvel MCU to adapt the film based on “Tales from the Loop” by Simon Stålenhag: “Set in an alternative future, it tells the story of a teenage girl (Millie Bobby Brown) who realizes that a strange but sweet robot who comes to her has actually been sent by her missing brother. She and the robot set out to find the brother in an imaginative world of humans mixing with all manner of robots, uncovering a grand conspiracy in the process.” (Justin Kroll, DEADLINE)
Some of the biggest unveilings of the past week as of this article have come directly from the devoted folks over at Lucasfilm and Disney following the season two finale of Disney+ series, The Mandalorian. Season three will kick off in December 2021, while it didn’t take too long for details to finally surface about The Book Of Boba Fett, including a sweet new logo signaling the new standalone spin-off series forthcoming from exec producers Jon Faverau, Dave Filoni and Robert Rodriguez, and reintroducing The Mandalorian co-stars Ming Na Wen and actor Temuera Morrison in the title role, also arriving in December next year. Netflix is reportedly mining a new female-led thriller in the vein of Ron Howard’s 1996 movie, Ransom. That film starred Mel Gibson as a multi-millionaire whose son’s vicious kidnapping becomes the catalyst of his resolve, reupping his quest by announcing his ransom money as a bounty against the kidnappers involved. The feature pitch comes from Spenser Confidential scribe Sean O’Keefe, and will be produced by O’Keefe next to Matt Reeves and his 6th & Idaho partnes Adam Kassan and Rafi Crohn, and by John Schoenfelder of Addictive Pictures. Furiosa has an official theatrical release date slated for June 23, 2023, according to a studio announcement on Wednesday from Warner Bros. Pictures for at least three titles on its slate going forward. The Queen’s Gambit star Anya Taylor-Joy will covet the title role of the road warrioress in the prequel, inheriting the role from actress Charlize Theron’s performance in the 2015 Tom Hardy-led relaunch, Mad Max: Fury Road, from director George Miller. Chris Hemsworth and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II are also starring with Miller directing and writing, and joining longtime partner, Oscar-nominated producer Doug Mitchell (Mad Max: Fury Road, Babe) to produce.
