Eric Bana and Kiernan Shipka are set to star in writer/director Jordan Scott’s (Cracks) highly anticipated thriller, Berlin Nobody, from production companies augenschein Filmproduktion and Ridley Scott’s Scott Free Productions.
Set to start shooting in September, the film is produced by Scott Free’s Ridley Scott and Michael Pruss alongside augenschein’s Jonas Katzenstein and Maximilian Leo. Georgina Pope will also produce. The film is executive produced by augenschein’s Jonathan Saubach.
Protagonist Pictures is handling worldwide sales alongside augenschein Sales and will introduce the hot project to buyers at the upcoming European Film Market. The companies are teaming up once again as part of their unique strategic partnership to co-represent rights on select feature film titles.
Inspired by Nicholas Hogg’s 2015 novel, “Tokyo”, Berlin Nobody is set in Berlin where we meet American social psychologist Ben Monroe (Bana), as he investigates a local cult connected to a disturbing event. While he immerses himself into his work, his rebellious teenage daughter, Mazzy (Shipka), gets involved with a mysterious local boy, who introduces her to the city’s underground party scene. As these two worlds head towards an intersection, Mazzy finds herself in great danger and Ben will need to race against the clock to save her.
“I’m delighted to be working with our friends and partners at augenschein and Protagonist on this fantastic thriller set in the great city of Berlin,” said Ridley Scott. “We couldn’t be more excited to bring this timely story to life. I’m also thrilled to be collaborating again with Eric Bana as well as the wonderful Kiernan Shipka. Scott Free is committed to bold, original films and filmmaking and Berlin Nobody couldn’t be a better example of that.”
“We are thrilled by Jordan’s vision as it aligns perfectly with our director-driven approach,” said augenschein’s Leo. “And of course, it’s an honor to be collaborating with the legendary Ridley. Michael has been an incredible partner,” added Katzenstein. “Hot off the heels of The Dive, we are thrilled to be launching another project with George, Janina and the whole Protagonist team,” added Saubach.
“Berlin Nobody is the ultimate package – a tense and taut psychological thriller produced by two companies at the top of their game, helmed by a new and exciting visionary director, Jordan, and led by the fiercely talented Eric and Kiernan,” said George Hamilton, Chief Commercial Officer at Protagonist Pictures. “We can’t wait to introduce this project to distributors around the world, in partnership with Jonathan Saubach and our friends at augenschein.”
Bana’s credits include Chopper, Ridley Scott’s Black Hawk Down, Steven Spielberg’s Munich, Wolfgang Petersen’s Troy, Lone Survivor, and most recently The Dry, one of Australia’s top grossing films of all time. He is repped by WME and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern.
Shipka has appeared in the Emmy Award-winning series Mad Men opposite Jon Hamm and January Jones and Feud: Bette and Joan opposite Susan Sarandon and Jessica Lange. She led Netflix’s hugely successful series “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” and appeared in the CW’s sister series “Riverdale”. Up next, Shipka can be seen in Roku’s “Swimming with Sharks” and HBO’s “The White House Plumber’s.” Shipka is represented by WME, Anonymous Content, Sloane Offer and The Lede Company.

The first film announced under the new deal between augenschein and Protagonist was the elevated survival thriller The Dive starring Sophie Lowe and Louisa Krause. Produced by augenschein, the two companies are co-representing worldwide rights, including North America, and launched sales at the Cannes virtual market in 2021. The Dive is written and directed by rising German filmmaker Maximilian Erlenwein who is known for the crime-thriller Stereo starring Jürgen Vogel, Moritz Bleibtreu, Petra Schmidt-Schaller which debuted at the Berlin Film Festival.

Production begins next month on Scott’s next project Napoleon, an epic sized David Scarpa-scripted drama that stars Joaquin Phoenix and Vanessa Kirby about the tempestuous relationship between Napoleon Bonaparte and his wife Josephine. The company is currently in production on Matt Ruskin’s Boston Strangler for 20th Century Films and Hulu, starring Keira Knightley, Carrie Coon, Chris Cooper and Alessandro Nivola.
