Now Playing: IT’S A WONDERFUL KNIFE – Review
Christsmastime is near which means the air is full of holiday music, the trees and homes are full of lights, and oh, there is some freshly splattered blood in the snow. That red across the white looks so festive. Yes, that can only mean one thing: there is a new horror movie set at Christmastime! And if that weren’t good enough to peak your interest, it is following a trend I’ve been seeing of taking something from pop culture and giving it a horror twist (Freaky Friday, The Mean One, Winnie the Pooh, for example). And I have to tell you, I am a fan of this trend. So what am I talking about?
Director Tyler McIntyre’s It’s a Wonderful Knife hit theaters today and if you like horror movies like Scream, actors like Justin Long, or want to see a darker version of It’s a Wonderful Life (which I have never seen, by the way), then you need to get to theaters and watch this new flick.
Written by Michael Kennedy, we open with a usual cheery Christmas setting: a town all decked out for the holiday and people gathered round to celebrate. But then the killings start and our main character, Winnie Carruthers, is able to stop them. Fast forward to a year later and Winnie’s life is not so wonderful. What is a girl to do? She wishes that she were never born and is sent to a parallel universe where, you guessed it, the killer was never stopped. I don’t know what George Bailey does in his parallel universe, but in this one Winnie tries to find a way to stop the killer so that she can return to her own universe. Oh, and there are plenty of killings along the way.
I abosultely enjoyed this ride of holiday horror directed by Tyler MacIntyre. As I said, I have not seen It’s a Wonderful Life, but I know the basics of what happens so I thought I knew what to expect. I figured I’d just enjoy some holiday killings sprinkled throughout a known storyline, but no, there were a few surprises in there to make it not feel so predictable.
Here’s the trailer, if you haven’t already seen it:
It’s a Wonderful Knife hit theaters today so I highly encourage you to add a trip to the movies to your weekend plans.
