That said, some of the spectacle is a bit of an eye sore here in the latest official trailer unveiled during this weekend’s events at New York Comic Con. Just a few of the CG shots look like crap and I honestly can’t get past Matt Damon who comes across as the most miscast actor for a film since Tyler Perry flopped those efforts in Alex Cross. I suppose from here on the saving graces of the film might be some of the other cast, including Andy Lau, actress Jing Tian whose own crossover career now welcomes her addition to Legendary’s other prospect, Pacific Rim: Malestrom.
Time will tell how this one bodes when it releases on February 17 (December 16 in China), but catch the trailer below and judge for yourselves.
SYNOPSIS:
Starring global superstar Matt Damon and directed by one of the most breathtaking visual stylists of our time, Zhang Yimou (Hero, House of Flying Daggers), Legendary’s The Great Wall tells the story of an elite force making a valiant stand for humanity on the world’s most iconic structure. The first English-language production for Yimou is the largest film ever shot entirely in China. The Great Wall also stars Jing Tian, Pedro Pascal, Willem Dafoe and Andy Lau.
