THE GREAT WALL Stacks Against Fire And Monsters In The First Trailer
Universal and Legendary’s latest 3D prospect, The Great Wall, took a bit of time to gather its casting before finally nabbing actors like Matt Damon, Andy Lau and actress Jing Tian who is soon to make her way in Legendary Pictures’s Kong: Skull Island next year as well. That said, it’s a Damon-loaded week with the actor’s latest, Jason Bourne, heading to theaters this weekend, which couldn’t be a better time to promote the epic new China-shot 3D fantasy which retells a mythological perspective behind the construction of one of today’s biggest landmarks.

Tommy Lee Jones Adds To The Cast Of The Next BOURNE Film With Damon Starring
The past several years have shown signs of life for a few more ‘Bourne’ films with mainstays, actors Matt Damon and Jeremy Renner in the wind for reprising roles in their own Bourne films. Particularly in 2015 however, the recent news of actresses, returning franchise co-star Julia Stiles and newly added Ex-Machina star Alicia Vikander have remained productive in building up more hype in anticipation of further news.
That effort continues now with word that actor Tommy Lee Jones will be joining the three principles for the upcoming film according to Variety. Jones will reportedly be starring in the role of a high-ranking CIA official geared toward the currently unknown plot with Damon back to star in this, his fourth outing as the lead character inspired by the work of late author Robert Ludlum. Paul Greengrass who last directed the 2007 release of The Bourne Ultimatum will be making his way back to the chair to helm as well as scribe with writer and executive producer Christopher Rouse. Damon and Greengrass will also produce with Frank Marshall and Jeffrey Weiner from Captivate Entertainment, in addition to Greg Goodman and Ben Smith.
Jones is poised to appear in Ariel Vromen’s Criminal in January next year while Damon himself has a few titles coming up himself, including intergalactic space adventure, The Martian, and next November’s release of Zhang Yimou’s fantasy epic, The Great Wall.

Matt Damon To Be Cast In Zhang Yimou’s THE GREAT WALL
It’s taken a few years to get off the ground, but the latest long-awaited project, The Great Wall, finally found a new director back in March with Going Home and Hero helmer Zhang Yimou left since The Last Samurai director Edward Zwick’s departure. This month now following previous casting efforts, the project is looking to bring Matt Damon on board, according to Deadline.
Damon, recently confirmed to return to the fray as Jason Bourne for a new film with Paul Greengrass, may star in an epic story set in 15th century China about British warriors who come across the titular wall during its construction in lieu of a threat greater than the Mongols. The actor is among those in an accumulating list that tentatively casts Henry Cavill (Man Of Steel), Benjamin Walker (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter) and Zhang Ziyi (The Grandmaster).
Carlo Bernard and Doug Miro are producing the script for Legendary East, a division of Legendary Pictures, in conjunction with China Film Company. Max Brooks conceived the story with Legendary CEO Thomas Tull who is producing with Chuck Roven, Jon Jashni and Alex Gartner, and Peter Loehr and Jillian Share who are executive producing.
Tull’s Legendary Pictures is also behind the releases of Crimson Peak (October 16, 2015), Seventh Son (February 6, 2015), and Jurassic World (June 12, 2015), and the forthcoming productions of Godzilla 2 and Pacific Rim 2.

Matt Damon And Paul Greengrass Reportedly In Talks For More 'BOURNE'
Twitch broke the news on Monday that actor Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass are joined in talks to return to for another installment in the Bourne franchise. The news comes almost a year after Damon spoke to Movieline about the chances of his return since actor Jeremy Renner‘s appearance in The Bourne Legacy last year.
“There has not been any movement,” he said. “I’ve always been open to it as long as Paul Greengrass directs, I don’t think he’s going to do it.” Damon went on to explain the difficulties and challenges that could come with Greengrass at the helm to follow the events after Legacy, saying “from what I understand, it kind of relives [The Bourne Ultimatum] from a different perspective. What that means, because they use our actors and characters, is that whatever they said [in Legacy] is true and so we’d have to acknowledge it in any Bourne movie that we’d do. And that makes it really tough,” Damon also insinuated the challenge of continuing Bourne’s story after the first three films in which the character was driven to find his identity.
Since then, stories about the film’s development have been minimal, though the interest is still there, as previously insisted by Universal chairman Adam Fogelson who sat down with an interview with The Hollywood Reporter writer Matthew Belloni in February. When asked about plans for franchise after Legacy, Fogelson answered with the following:
“The point of the last movie was to create a universe, a world and characters that give us a lot of freedom and flexibility in how we go forward. Yeah, the movie didn’t perform the way the last one did. It also didn’t cost what the last one did. It performed more along the lines of how the first one did. I absolutely see us doing more Bourne, 100 percent yes. Matt has talked about the possibility of coming back, and we totally respect that and are excited if and when he wants to have conversations. But I think the last movie gave us a big bunch of options to pursue a next chapter.”
Bourne trilogy writer Tony Gilroy directed The Bourne Legacy (2012), the fourth film of the franchise which branched out a new storyline in the franchise based on a series of novels by the late author Robert Ludlum. Its commercial success didn’t match the success of its predecessor, the Greengrass-directed 2007 release of The Bourne Supremacy which recapitulated the $1.2B franchise. However, it was enough after earning $275 million worldwide at the box office to get a fifth film started, according to news broken at Deadline about Renner’s return earlier this month, in addition to a new screenwriter.
Damon recently reaffirmed his interest in the franchise to reporters while attending the star-studded Los Angeles premiere of his latest film, Elysium. And with now two films in development, there may even be talk of a possible crossover between both characters. It’s very early to tell, of course, but it looks as if things are headed in that direction. But I want to know what you think.
QUESTION: Are you looking forward to the next possible slate of Bourne films? And what do you think the odds will be for a crossover film? Share your thoughts on Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus and Pinterest.
