NYT Best Seller Brian K. Vaughan Scores Three-Year Deal At Legendary
New York Times bestselling and award-winning comic book creator, television and film writer Brian K. Vaughan has officially signed a three-year deal with Legendary Entertainment. The move signals the first such deal for Vaughan whose work has been highly sought after, with Legendary tasked to adapt several of his comics, in addition to ramping up exclusive, original projects developed by Vaughan for film and television across multiple platforms.
“Through truly inspired storytelling, Brian has created immersive, compelling worlds that are devoured by fans worldwide,” stated Nick Pepper, President of Legendary Television Studios. “We couldn’t be more thrilled to work with Brian to bring his visions and extraordinary library of work to the screen.”
Added Vaughan, “Legendary was instrumental in helping to revolutionize the way the world thought of ‘comic-book movies,’ so it’s a tremendous honor to work with them on adaptations of some of my and my talented collaborators’ past and current comics, and I’m looking forward to hopefully creating a few wholly original stories with them, as well.”
Critically acclaimed, Vaughan’s works are the recipients of 14 Eisner Awards, 14 Harvey Awards and a Hugo Award for his work with artist Fiona Staples on their series, Saga. His other comic books include Paper Girls with artist Cliff Chiang, Ex Machina with artist Tony Harris, Barrier with artist Marcos Martin, and We Stand on Guard with artist Steve Skroce.
Vaughan is also exec producer on FX’s upcoming TV adaptation of his 2002 novel series, Y: The Last Man, from Michael Green and Aïda Croal and starring Diane Lane, as well as an executive consultant of his comic book Runaways – currently in its second season at Hulu, with Josh Schwartz & Stephanie Savage adapting and Marvel producing.
Vaughan was nominated for an Emmy Award for his first work in television, as a writer on the hit series Lost. He also developed Stephen King’s Under the Dome for Steven Spielberg and CBS, exec producing and co-showrunning its first season. His first feature film spec script, Roundtable, was purchased in a bidding war after landing on the Black List.
Vaughan is represented by Verve and attorney Julian Zajfen of Ziffren Brittenham.
Legendary is the studio behind a raft of gargantuan film titles in various phases of production, including and not limited to this year’s Godzilla: King Of The Monsters (May 31, 2019) and Godzilla VS. Kong (May 22, 2020), Detective Pikachu (May 10, 2019) and Dune (TBA 2020). Their TV division is also prepping season two of Netflix series Lost In Space starring Molly Parker and Toby Stephens, the first season of Netflix‘s Pacific Rim anime series, and the first season of Amazon fantasy noir drama, Carnival Row with Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevingne starring.
