PACIFIC RIM 2 Is Back Above Water With A New Director

A year later, both del Toro and Legendary’s own Thomas Tull invested updates of their own before announcing an April 2017 release (before it was pushed back four months), while plans were in motion to develop graphic novels and an animated series to tie-in to both films. This was all before del Toro was confirmed to direct an upcoming remake of Fantastic Voyage for 20th Century Fox and Lightstorm Entertainment, thus leaving the impression among fans and Twitter followers that the film wasn’t going to happen at all.
Alas, our dear director took to Twitter a little over a month ago to lend us a heads-up on that end suggesting the film was still happening one way or another, and judging by the latest news, it appears he hasn’t let us down. And at the center of it all: Steven DeKnight whose credits earned on shows like STARZ series, Spartacus, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Angel and the first season of Marvel’s Netflix series, Daredevil, have now awarded him his latest feature film directorial debut.
So there you have it. The plot is nil right now but Prometheus and Marvel’s Doctor Strange scribe Jon Sphaits is writing the film while it’s expected that Charlie Hunnam and Kikuchi Rinko will reprise their roles from the first film. Del Toro, Tull, Mary Parent and Jon Jashini are producing with Jillian Share executive producing.
