RUROUNI KENSHIN's Live-Action Film Success Earns A Trilogy
According to the hype over at Anime News Network, the successful adaptation of Rurouni Kenshin has garnered a sequel.. The first film of the franchise, Rurouni Kenshin is based on the popularly syndicated series of manga novels by Nobuhiro Watsuki in 1994, which also garnered several animated video and film installments thereafter. It stars Takeru Satoh in the lead role as Kenshin Himura, a Meiji-era wartime assassin-turned-wanderer in 19th century Japan, seeking atonement for his killings, who is forced to use his sword again to defend a Kendo school, its owner and its surrounding community against an opium dealing crimeboss, his henchman, and a skilled swordsman from his own past. The film also starred Emi Takei, Yu Aoi, Munetaka Aoki, Sanosuke Sagara, Taketo Tanaka, Teruyuki Kagawa and Koji Kikkawa and was written for the screen by Kiyomi Fujii and director Keishi Otomo.
