Actor Takeru Satoh is gearing up for a starry return to the beloved title role in Keishi Otomo’s forthcoming live-action anime tête-à-tête, Rurouni Kenshin: The Final / The Beginning.

The initial trilogy from 2012 through 2014 was a blockbuster festival and commercial hit with Satoh starring as a pacifist ronin armed only with a Sakabato, whose renoucement against a life of violence ultimately finds him pulled back in and facing hordes of villains along the way including the infamous Shishio Makoto, leader of the Juppongatana.

Cesar Alejandro Jr. at Filmsmash aptly sums up both new titles as follows:

Taking both an epilogue and prequel approach for each respective film, the material covers both the Enishi storyline which is post trilogy as well as dabbling into the meat of what will become The BEGINNING and the origin of Kenshin’s iconic cross shaped scar.

Several new and returning characters will appear in the films next year following a delay this year due to the pandemic. The first, Rurouni Kenshin: The Final, opens on April 23, with Rurouni Kenshin: The Beginning, releasing on June 4.
