Sam Worthington Will Say A HUNTER'S PRAYER, Filming Next Year
Actor Sam Worthington is only a few months away from starting production in New Zealand with the rest of the accumulating cast of director James Cameron’s epic Avatar saga between now and the next several years. In the meantime, the actor also has his hands full on a lesser CG-heavy action thriller which he will start shooting next year in Hungary with director Jonathan Mostow.
The film is titled Hunter’s Prayer, based on author Kevin Wignall’s 2004 publication “For The Dogs”, which received critical acclaim and made available in the U.S. that year and in several territories thereafter. Worthington will play an assassin for hire who turns on his employers after a failed assignment to kill a young girl, forces them both on the run for their lives, with the only option of uncovering why her family was wiped out earlier on, and delivering justice to those responsible. Casting remains on-going with further announcements ahead.
The European-set action thriller also marks the latest and biggest investment for UK-based film and TV production firm, Screen Yorkshire, through its Yorkshire Content Fund alongside the Ingenious Senior Film Fund. Gavin Poolman and Michael Shyjka are executive producing the film with Hugo Heppell, head of investments at Screen Yorkshire, who sung a few praises of his own regarding the film’s intergral role for business in the region. ‘’The Yorkshire Content Fund continues to have a dramatic impact on production levels in the region.” he said. “This latest investment is highly significant as it demonstrates that Yorkshire is now able to attract – and host – big budget international feature films, as well as major sporting events like the Tour de France.’’.
The film will be produced by Worthington and Michael Schwarz for US-based full-clip, along with US company Film Engine’s Navid McIlhargey and Anthony Rhulen, and Chris Milburn for Midsummer Films in the UK. Hunter’s Prayer will be written by Paul Leyden and Oren Moverman, as well as John Brancato and Michael Ferris who previously provide script treatment for Worthington‘s role in helmer McG’s Terminator: Salvation (2009) and Mostow‘s Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machines (2003) and Surrogates (2009).
Brancato and Ferris are also tapped to provide script treatment for the forthcoming production in the Philippines of xXx: The Return Of Xander Cage, with franchise actor Vin Diesel reprising his role.
