STREET FIGHTER: Legendary Courts RackaRacka For The Live-Action Adaptation
THR’s Borys Kit is reporting that Aussie sibling film duo Danny and Michael Philippou are in final talks to direct an upcoming live-action adaptation of Street Fighter. The news comes following the acquisition of exclusive TV and film rights earlier this month from Capcom to Legendary Entertainment.
The Philippou brothers are best known as the faces of the RackaRacka YouTube channel, creating spectacular and often explosive stunt action and comedy videos online. Their latest feature film effort, supernatural thriller Talk To Me arrives this summer from A24.
Details are pending on their approach to the new Street Fighter film. As Kit notes in his report, however, “if they are being hired off the strength of their breakout, tension and gore may be on the agenda.”
Interesting.
The Philippous are now the latest in line of helmers to direct their own adaptation of the hit tournament fighting game property which launched in 1987, with the next installment, “Street Fighter 6,” launching in July.
