David Sloan (Sasha Mitchell), is chosen to escort an American aide worker, Jenny Reynolds (TBD), a witness to a cold blooded rape and murder of three Somali female aide workers, to the local magistrate across Mogadishu. The murder was staged to look like it was committed by a UN Peacekeepers. But Jenny recognizes the killer as wearing a UN Peacekeeper’s uniform but is a al-Shabaab terrorist name Siad Ali and not a real UN soldier.

AFM 2014: Steven Seagal To Star In CYPHER

Well, it’s official. After twelve years of languishing largely in direct-to-video territory while dabbling in reality televsion, instilling friendships with Russian leaders and American law enforcement certain political and law enforcement, actor, expert martial artist and musician Steven Seagal is ready to go back to the big screen.

Five months away from any talk of a possible third installment of Under Siege following his 1992 and 1995 films, Seagal is prepping a new $25 million dollar actioner titled Cypher with production company and international sales agent, Aldamisa International, LLC. His original script for the film will focus on the actor’s lead role as a special forces operative who decides to circumvent bureaucracy by going rogue in order to hunt down terrorists being sanctioned by the government.

There is no director or other cast as of yet, but it is a breath of fresh air for fans in lieu of his modestly ceremonious villain role in the 2010 theatrical grindhouse revenge slasher, Machete. What’s more, in addition to the momentum here since rejecting action star Sylvester Stallone’s offers for a role in any of the Expendables films in recent years, its also an awesome chance to showcase his expertise on camera once again for the Aikido master he is, despite sporting much porkier than his skinner pony-tailed tough guy image of yesteryear.

Sure, he’s obviously no Sammo Hung. But with the right director, cast and crew, Cypher could be a surprise hit. But what say you? Are you looking forward to seeing Seagal back in action?

AFM 2014: Sign Up For IRON DRAGON TV Today!

The American Film Market has been buzzing immensely with news this month, and nowadays, fans of martial arts film genre are bound to hear a little something more on the home entertainment front. AFM 2014: EVERLY Is Armed And Ready In The Latest Sales Poster

Everly joins Hayek with principle actors Togo Igawa, Masashi Fujimoto and Hiroyuki Watanabe. The film is co-written by Yale Hannon and is produced by Adam Ripp, Rob Paris and Luke Rivett, and co-produced by Brett Hedblom, with action sequences designed by Akihiro “Yuji” Noguchi (Special Forces, Ninja, Travelers). The film is currently awaiting a North American release date from Dimension and Radius/TWC.

AFM 2014: Aussie Zombie Western BULLETS FOR THE DEAD Readies Filming

If hybrid Western zombie thrillers are more your speed, then you may be delighted to learn of what’s happening this month for the forthcoming feature production of Bullets For The Dead from writing/directing duo Joshua C. Birch and Michael Du-Shane. The film itself is an expansion following a three-minute concept short they put together in 2011 as part of a masters’ program for South Brisbane’s Griffith Film School where they attended at the time.

Set to begin filming in Queensland, Australia on November 17, the film centers on the story of James Dalton, a hardened bounty hunter who, while en route escorting a gang of outlaws led by Annie Blake and upon rescuing a lone preacher from the remains of a massacre, is forced to battle his way through the zombie apocalypse across the American West of the 1870s. Actor Christopher Sommers leads the current cast with actress Vanessa Moltzen and actor Hugh Parker, with Griffith Film School backing the project alongside producers from Visionquest Entertainment, in addition to Screen Queensland, the UK’s GSP Distribution and off-set co-financier Premiere Picture.

“It’s been a very long and intense two and a half years.” says Visionquest’s Cathy Rodda who also produced Iron Sky. “We’ve been in pre for 18 months and the film has been planned within an inch of its life, constantly wrangling story execution against budget. What we have now is a great, fun script, a truly creative vision and a fantastic team that will see us punch well above the weight of our near $2 million budget.”

Sommers will appear this December in the Austrailian theatrical release of Russell Crowe’s directorial debut, The Water Diviner. In the meantime, international sales agent Phoenix Worldwide Entertainment will be on hand at American Film Market to present Bullets For The Dead for sales, with The Backlot Studios theatrically distributing the film domestically in Australia by next year.

AFM 2014: Updates On TURKEY SHOOT And GRIDLOCKED

Elimination thrillers are still a thing, particularly with films like the latest release of Die Fighting and the newly announced production for The Condemned 2. Writer, executive producer and director Jon Hewitt knows this, and is now responding in kind with a remake of Drive Hard helmer Brian Trenchard-Smith’s 1982 sci-fi horror flick, Turkey Shoot.

The film centers on lead actor Dominic Purcell in a story set in a not-too-distant future where a former Navy SEAL trades time in prison for chances in a deadly, televised game of reality-based surival. Also starring are actresses Viva Bianca and co-scribe Belinda McClory, and actor Robert Taylor, with Antony I Ginnane producing. International sales agent Guardian Entertainment will be on hand to represent the film at this month’s events at the American Film Market alongside Lightining Entertainment who also have a slate of their own.

The news also comes as one of a few recent updates for Purcell in lieu of Tapped helmer Allan Ungar‘s new action thriller Gridlocked, which just debut its latest poster. Purcell stars as a former SWAT leader forced to strategize with a movie star on a ride-along when a training facility they arrive to gets taken under siege by mercs.

Tapped star Cody Hackman, acrors Danny Glover and Stephen Lang, and WWE diva Trish Stratus also star with a script by Ungar and co-writer Rob Robol. Red Sea Media will be granting the film its market debut at the AFM as well.

Charlie Hunnam In Training For Thai Prison Fight Drama, A PRAYER BEFORE DAWN

The film is also pushing a little extra for authenticity on top of Hunnam’s training with Jean-Stephane Sauvaire in the director’s chair; casting details are pending as things stand, although it is currently being said the cast may include former inmates who were once Muay Thai champions themselves. In addition, Nick Saltrese’s screenplay will illustrate that of a crossover in genres towing the line between Nicolas Winding Refn’s Drive and Gareth Huw Evans’s The Raid, which could grant this prison thriller something healthily balanced and promising on top of being an enthralling drama. That said, leave it to Sauvaire in his own words to offer a bit more insight. “A Prayer Before Dawn is – at one and the same time – a true story, a prison drama, a survival movie, a desperate love story and an extraordinary tale of redemption.” he says. “Above all, it is a poignant and uniquely human story.”.

Evans, Hammer Board Wheatley's 70's Action Thriller, FREE FIRE In 2015

Kill List helmer Ben Wheatley‘s knack for vintage classic noir thrillers and hard-boiled action flicks may suit perfectly for his latest feature film, Free Fire. The film is setting up to be his first North American set project with producer Andy Starke under their Rook Films banner with financing from Film4 while they prepare to introduce the film at the American Film Market next month.

So what’s in store? Well, for starters, a gritty crime thriller set in 1978 revolving around the story of a woman named Justine who brokers a deal at an empty warehouse between two Irish gangsters and a gang looking to sell them some guns. What could possibly go wrong? Well, with a lot of guns in a room full of criminals, what do you think? The stellar ensemble cast includes actress Olivia Wilde, and actors Cillian Murphy, Michael Smiley, Luke Evans and Armie Hammer. StudioCanal has the UK rights with William Morris Endeavor holding the rights for the U.S.

Filming is expected to commense next Spring, which should help keep Dracula Untold star Evans busy in addition to his expected appearance in the upcoming reboot of The Crow for Relativity Media. Free Fire will be his second outing with Wheatley after next years’ action sci-fi release, High Rise, while Murphy will be seen in Ron Howard’s In The Heart Of The Sea this March, with Hammer following with upcoming action comedy, The Man From U.N.C.L.E. with Henry Cavill in the summer.

Fans can also catch Evans this December in Peter Jackson’s middle Earth fantays action finale, The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies.
