Deadline‘s Mike Fleming Jr. reports the Bad Boys For Life star will be partnering for a fourth time around with Akiva Goldsman to build a vehicle based on the current literary trilogy from author Marcus Sakey. If 1% of the world’s children were born with powerful gifts, how would society adapt to them? The Brilliance novel trilogy is set in a future where non-neurotypical people — demonized by society as “twists” or “abnorms” — are threatening the status quo of the “normal” population with their unique gifts. They are officially labeled as “Brilliants” and are carefully tracked by the government. Smith will play the book series hero Nick Cooper, a federal agent who works for the Department of Analysis and Response. His job is to track down […]
A new comic book universe is potentially on the horizon with the trades all reporting that Steven Paul acquired a majority stake in Atlas Comics. Paul’s SP Media Group will finance, co-produce and with Paramount Pictures in a first look development and distribution deal with Paramount Pictures announced out of Cannes on Thursday, along with word that the Ghost In The Shell producer has tapped Akiva Goldsman to oversee a writers’ room through his Weed Road Pictures banner. Paul reportedly acquired the stake from owner Nemesis Group and principal Jason Goodman, in a deal that took years to iron out according to Variety. Goodman’s grandfather, Martin Goodman, firstly founded Timely Publications in 1939 whose Atlas Comics emerged in 1950. Then-Atlas creative hive member Stan Lieber (a.k.a. Stan Lee) was promoted to editor for Marvel Comics a few years after Atlas went defunct; Goodman and son Charles attempted to relaunch Atlas […]
Akiva Goldsman, screenwriter and current writers’ room host to the Transformers saga and upcoming Ology franchise, is still on deck to adapt and helm a live-action take on Rob Liefield’s 1995 Maximum Press superheroine, Avengelyne. In the meantime, he’s also primed to ante up efforts to deliver Liefield’s Extreme Universe as of last January, and now with evolution by way of a new seven-figure deal with Netflix in its current efforts to load up on original IP with the success of David Ayer’s Bright in tow. The goal will be to generate a series of feature films with connective tissue, anchored by Liefeld’s comic book creations, all of which bear many of the same tonal traits that comprise Liefield’s most prolific creation as of late, Deadpool, which saw its R-rated success story in 2016 with a sequel to follow this summer. The first title among the bunch to advance forward […]
Take what you will from the current outlook of director Nikolaj Arcel’s new movie, The Dark Tower. It may not appear as optimistic as one would hope, as THR suggests, but that doesn’t appear to be hindering Sony Pictures TV any in its own advancement of a small screen carry-over. The company, along with Media Rights Captial and Glen Mazzara (The Walking Dead) is reportedly eyeing a ten-to-thirteen episode first season with Mazzara serving as showrunner for a 2018 production launch. Aiming as a show seperate from the film save for some overlap, the series will focus on the origins of Roland the Gunslinger and The Man In Black by way of the fourth book in the series, Wizard Of Glass. per StephenKing.com Part IV of an epic quest. Roland the Gunslinger and his followers have to contend with a sentient monorail intent on killing itself and taking them with […]

A partial description of […]
Comic book creator Rob Liefeld was once the guy who didn’t want to be that guy – as in the guy who spoke out of turn to Twitter followers and fans on something he wasn’t directly involved in. This was during the course of early development on the Deadpool sequel following up last year’s Winter success making it the highest-earning R-rated comic book movie ever, and it still is that way as that sequel moves forward under a new director. With this, it appears Liefeld’s other work now makes him the proud center of the latest news breaking via several trade sources on Tuesday. The IP in question regards the Extreme Universe – a catalog of nine comic books with over 100 characters now on par for big screen treatment in a seven-figure deal that places Liefeld with producer Graham King, partnering company Fundemental Films, Akiva Goldsman of Weed Road […]
Comic book creator Rob Liefield’s 1995 Maximum Press superheroine, Avengelyne, was last reported back in 2013 to have found its star in MMA fighter-cum-actress Gina Carano in the course of officially launching efforts toward finding screenwriters and a director. That project has stayed quiet ever since while the actress who took on a cameo in the 2009 action thriller, Blood And Bone before leading the fully-fledged Steven Soderbergh thriller, Haywire, has gone on to build a notable career in film for herself with her most recent stint in Tim Miller’s record-breaking adaptation of Liefield’s popular comic, Deadpool. As for whether or not Avengelyne is still Carano’s remains to be seen and hasn’t been indicated at all in Deadline‘s latest report on Thursday. The article points to a pre-emptive film rights deal by Paramount which hosts the addition of Akiva Goldsman as producer with an eye to direct, and for a […]
Last December saw some fantastic news of upscaling over at Hasbro, Inc.’s Allspark Pictures label to develop a conjoined cinematic movieverse along with Paramount Pictures for several of its properties. As such, an announcement made on Thursday for a writers’ room to convene and bring it all together, and who better to lead the charge than award-winning writer Akiva Goldsman? He’s recently been running things to help lead producer and director Michael Bay’s slew of upcoming Transformers movies and Bumblebee spinoff, and so with his feet already dug in, it appears he’s ready for the task, and in the good graces of an arsenal of stellar writers to boot. HOLLYWOOD, Calif., April 21, 2016 /PRNewswire/ — Paramount Pictures and Hasbro, Inc. today unveiled its top talent writers room which will have responsibility for developing Hasbro’s cross-property interconnected onscreen universe featuring the brands G.I. Joe, Micronauts, Visionaries, M.A.S.K. (Mobile Armored Strike […]
Cue the anti-Bay rage! Deadline is reporting that Oscar-winning writer Akiva Goldsman (A Beautiful Mind, I Am Legend) is negotiating with Paramount Pictures to head his own “writers room” to contemplate the future of the Transformers movies, thus focusing on spin-offs and potential two-part sequel following last year’s Transformers: Age Of Extinction. This probably doesn’t bode well with critics and fans of the classic Hasbro toy franchise and TV series who have had a bone to pick with Bay for one reason or several since he brought the warring Autobots and Decepticons to life in 2007 starring that actor who is not famous anymore. But then again, for a franchise that has made close to four billion dollars since then, they probably just don’t give a damn, because, well… giant alien robots fighting each other, and explosions makes money. So… yeah. There’s no word yet on whether or […]
It’s considerably awesome seeing Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson become one of the most entertaining and bankable actors working in film these days. The Mummy Returns, The Scorpion King, and The Rundown were a huge jumpstart for the former wrestler whose move into film has since brought him in the throes of some of the biggest franchises to to date, including The Fast And The Furious saga and the G.I. Joe movies. Despite his flexible willingness as an actor, he’s particularly one that anyone would look forward to seeing in an action-packed story. Well, Universal Pictures announed its readiness to answer the call back in June when it was reported that Johnson was up for the lead role in new espionage thriller, The Janson Directive, based on the work of Jason Bourne author and creator, the late Robert Ludlum. This week however, the hulking actor took to Twitter to confirm his involvement […]
