Argent To Rev Up Olympic Coming-Of-Age Boxing Doc, THEY FIGHT, As Narrative Feature

Fox Sports’ boxing doc, They Fight, is well on the way to a narrative feature adaptation according to Deadline‘s Andreas Wiseman. Argent Pictures’ Jill and Ryan Ahrens, and Ben Renzo, and Jason Michael Berman of Mandalay Pictures are producing the new movie inspired by Andrew Renzi’s 2017 doc and Michael Minahan’s 2016 WaPo article on which its based. Renzi is penning the screenplay for the new feature which, like Renzi’s They Fight, will center on a group of adolescent boxers and their formerly incarcerated coach in Southeast Washington DC on the road to defend their national titles – according to Wiseman. Argent’s own Drew Brees of the New Orleans Saints, Tony Parker of the San Antonio Spurs, and retirees – NFL Hall of Fame linebacker Derrick Brooks, and NBA all-star Michael Finley will serve as exec producers. One of the biggest and most important keys to getting a feature film going with help from partners at a major market at Cannes is obtaining funding. Filmmaker and actor David Sandberg knows this all too well having earned a world of support for his 2015 OTT half-hour 80’s-inspired fantasy martial arts time travel fantasy thriller, Kung Fury. Fast forward to 2018 and following brewing announcement since then for its feature film fruition and long since debuting at Cannes, Sandberg’s return to the sales floor this year is proving to be well worth the effort. ‘Ruthless’ Helmer’s Feminist Revenge Western Short, THE GOOD TIME GIRLS, Gets The Feature Treatment

Gina DeDomenico Flanagan Following her attachment to action spec, Ruthless, Baby Driver and The Hateful Eight costume designer, filmmaker Courtney Hoffman is advancing into feature-length with her Summer short, The Good Time Girls. The project was shot on 35mm and made as part of the AFI Directing Workshop for Women and Refinery 29’s Shatterbox Anthology. As Deadline reported on Friday, Argent Pictures obtained the feature film rights with Hoffman at helm from a script written with co-scribe Lucy Teitler. Jill Ahrens will produce for Argent next to Jordana Mollick for Haven Entertainment and Nine Stories’s Jake Gyllenhaal and Riva Marker. Argent’s own Ryan Ahrens and Ben Renzo are executive producing next to Mandalay’s Jason Michael Berman, Jaywalker Pictures’s Jayme Lemons and Shannon McIntosh, and Haven Entertainment’s Brendan Bragg.
