bat in the sun
After several days of teasing fans with vague images and posts, Bat In The Sun is now all in with their latest Kickstarter now live for Legend Of The White Dragon. Fans who’ve eyed the buzz on this project so far will undoubtedly recognize its DNA – made obvious with the clear casting of talents like Jason David Frank and Johnny Yong Bosch, former stars of a certain long-running tokusatsu series. Of course, there’s also this:
Additionally, Valiant can now confirm two new additions to the project’s star-studded cast in actor Kevin Porter (Dodgeball) and actress/model Ciera Foster (Two and a Half Men). Porter and Foster join lead actor Michael Rowe (CW’s Arrow, The Flash) alongside a prestigious and rapidly growing cast that also includes Jason David Frank (Power Rangers), John Morrison (WWE, El Rey’s Lucha Underground), Derek Theler (ABC’s Baby Daddy), and Chantelle Barry (90210, Entourage).
My weekend started off as a really loaded one. But, again, I was determined to squeeze in this week’s round up of amazing experimental fight action and cinematic stuntwork by some of today’s inspired performers…
That said, it’s been more than a year since I started conceptualizing these articles as Hit Lists and if you’ve been following us long enough, you already know how this goes: Stunt reels! Alas, you get two Vimeo exclusives from stuntwoman Thekla Hutyrova and fight coordinator Matt Berberi, followed by a YouTube-friendly playlist of fellow stunt performers in the form of an extended reel from martial artist and filmmaker Shaun Charney, and stunt reels by Brandyn T. Williams, famed Batman (1989) double Dave Lea, martial artist Nikki Stanley new reels from filmmakers Tony Diaz and actor Dennis Ruel, and a new 2016 reel by the award-winning martial arts performance troupe, Team Sideswipe.

And now, off to some teaser news of which there are two; the first I found comes straight from the bearings of 233 Film with Ghanan director Antoni-Jordi Owusu for the upcoming short, The Exchange, which has some terrific shots to sell itself to an audience. The second hails from a Film Combat Syndicate team favorite, Lunar Stunts who’ve, for better or worse, prove that it’s neither too early nor late for a zombie movie with the upcoming short, The Highway.
Press play and feel the groove!
Time to get on board with some fight action this week, and as such, have a look at these samplers from Dardrex‘s own Darren Holmquist and Martin Chan, another sampler from Kefi Abrikh and Djibril Newik Chase, the EMC Monkey’s newest – Super Park Fighters, Eric Jacobus’s newest Doom-inspired Go Pro fight with Thomas Tan, actor and stuntman and newly-decorated Karate black belt Chuck Johnson’s latest endeavor with Quiet Flame Stunts in Poster Boys featuring Yasufumi Minowa, Corridor Digital’s Cat Dog Kung Fu, Ronnie Shalvis’s latest Star Wars-inspired freerunning lightsaber short with CBR Stunts and T. Independent filmmakers Aaron and Sean Schoenke have been building some major hype over the past couple of months regarding their upcoming action shortfilm from their popular production company, Bat In The Sun productions. Responsible for some of the most entertaining, spectacular content ever to hit the internet, Bat In The Sun brings a visionary milestone in breathing life into some of the most beloved superheroes ever to hit comic book pages, video game platforms and television, with nearly no limit to their potential.
On Thursday thanks to Machinima, Aaron and Sean are unleashing their most highly anticipated fight scene shortfilm to date, pitting two classic characters from separate franchises in the form of The White Ranger vs. Scorpion. Actor Alvin Hsing (Death Grip) takes the mantle inheriting the iconic costume made popular by martial arts superstar Jason David Frank for the popular Americanized Tokusatsu family-friendly action series, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, opposite actor Peter Jang (Grayson: Earth One) reclaiming the role once more since killing a nerd in a promotional short for the second season of Mortal Kombat Legacy, based on the hit game from Midway.
The clip also features co-hosts, voice actor Matt Mercer and actor Frank debating their cases for each character’s victory, a victory already predetermined by a vote at their official website. Frank is also set to reappear back in uniform as the Green Ranger in the 2014 debut of Power Rangers: Super Megaforce.
