With Marvel surging along with writer Stacy Osei-Kuffour (PEN15) for Mahershala Ali’s upcoming Blade revamp, it appears Wesley Snipes is heading onward with a supernatural action thriller of his own. No details are available yet about the project, save for what Snipes alluded to in an interview with Uproxx, billing the project as a “Blade-killer”. Even going so far as to call it “Blade on steroids”, he added “…We set our character in the world of shape-shifters and a little bit of time travel. But the action is going to be… Well, we did white belt action in Blade. Now we’re going to do black belt action.” Visually upgraded for the big screen by New Line from its 1973 comic book likeness by author Marv Wolfman and illustrator Gene Colan, the Blade franchise took off in 1998 under director Stephen Norrington with Snipes starring in the title role, a modern […]
For years fans wondered if or when actor Wesley Snipes would reclaim the role of hit comic book action horror franchise, Blade. On Saturday night, the conversation changed drastically at SDCC with the announcement of actor Mahershala Ali (Moonlight, Alita Battle Angel) set to star. Visually upgraded from its 1973 comic book likeness by author Marv Wolfman and illustrator Gene Colan, the Blade franchise took off in 1998 under director Stephen Norrington with Snipes starring in the title role, a modern day dhampir (a semi-human with vampire genes) waging a vengeful age-old one-man war against vampires. Snipes produced all three films with Guillermo del Toro sitting in for the 2002 sequel, Blade 2, while franchise screenwriter David S. Goyer sat in for the third, Blade: Trinity (2004), which suffered more critically and controversially despite the trilogy’s overall commercial success. Following the character’s short stint in a live-action TV and seperate […]
Personally I’ve never been to a rave and nor would I have the time for anything like that. I can imagine they’re all sorts of fun for anyone attending who enjoy mingling in a psychedelic ambience full of young people reveling in high-energy technomusic and what have you. And then then blood comes raining down because of something they saw in a movie once… By “they”, I mean the folks over in Amsterdam looking ahead to a 3-day Bloodrave event set for October 30, 2015. The event is attributed to the opening sequence in Stephen Norrington’s 1998 Marvel action horror success, Blade, and I don’t know if they’re necessarily going to use real blood or some kind of red dye mixture or whatever. However, according to Your EDM, the event hosts have acknowledged this particular inquiry, saying, “…It is pushing borders, but we want to see how far we can […]
The following is a version of a segment to a compilation article to which I contributed with other writers over at The Action Elite prior to its publication on February 13, 2015. CLICK HERE to read the article in its entirety. In 1973, creators Marv Wolfman and Gene Colan gave life to a new breed of superhero in the form of a half-human, half vampire in a version that wouldn’t have likely serviced moviegoers 25 years later. By all means, it could probably work now much more than in 1998 when action cinema was taking on a new age, a new look and a new tone with a certain touch to music and costume design, and a cinematic flair that favored more toward contemporary storytelling as we entered the new millennium. But, as it stands, 1998 was the year we got our modernized approach in director Stephen Norrington’s Marvel Comics […]
While the big studios sort out the possibilities for the future of the Blade franchise with lead Wesley Snipes finally back at work, the character is obviously not limited to just what Hollywood can do. The independent scene has its own fair share of creativity in store, and the folks over at New York City’s Cinematic Fight Studio are honing into theirs with the early release of a concept poster for a new possible fan film titled Blade: Chronicles Of Eric Brooks. Up-and-coming actor Ricky Barksdale can be seen branded on the indie film fight studio’s newest poster as it was unveiled this week. The poster marks the first step toward a hopeful fan-driven shortfilm spin-off based on Marvel’s highly popular eponymous semi-human vampire hunter, centering on his earlier years as his pre-Blade alias, Eric Brooks, with a crowdsourcing effort to follow and help finish the post production process. Check it […]
Sources close to actor and action hero Wesley Snipes are publicly announcing the prospects of his return to the role of Blade, according to a small mention in a column over at the New York Daily News. The news comes in light of Snipes’s latest appearance in director Patrick Hughes’s new film, The Expendables 3, marking Snipes‘s return to the big screen following his release from a three-year prison sentence for tax evasion. Goyer sat in for […]
Comic-Con hype has been rife with a plethora of updates regarding superhero movie multifranchise business dealings. I’m not there for all the action so it feels a little overwhelming and difficult to keep up with as things are always happening from many angles (i.e. the sudden mysterious release date additions and switcheroos that tooks place earlier this week for several Marvel universe-related titles as well as the forthcoming third and fourth films of the Amazing Spider-Man franchise). But here’s what is already known, and considering that everything you are about to read can be Googled, I didn’t bother linking too much. So take my word for it if you will. ⚫Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy is poised for an animated series while the upcoming August 1, 2014 release of said film will possibly see the return of Thunderbolts helmer-hopeful and Avengers 3 rumor subject, director James Gunn back in the […]
