Andy and Brian Le are percolating a little more these days with a content-loaded return to their YouTube channel at Martial Club. The two have been busy in the film arena having since contributed to the works of directors like Bao Tran, the Daniels, Destin Daniel Cretton, Chaya Supannarat, and the late Pearry Teo to name a few while still working on some of their own in-house projects. Tentatively, that includes a short series of lookback videos of past Martial Club shortfilms including their 2020 tribute to Bruce Lee, “Fist Of Fury”. It’s a fun little dive into how they analyze their work as we stand by to see what else they have in store, so check these out below and subscribe to their channel if you haven’t already done so.
The official trailer arrived this week for Bangkok Dog starring D.Y. Sao, Byron Bishop, and Sahajak Boonthanakit. The film previously screened for audiences this summer for the second edition of the Big Bad Film Fest upon which our site was one of the few graced with the chance to present a review for the new action adventure from burgeoning director Chaya Supanarat and producer Prachya Pinkaew, who is best known for directing hit 2003 Thai blockbuster, Ong Bak. After intercepting a shipment of drugs from Thailand and discovering five dead bodies amidst the illicit cargo, special agent Andrew Kang (D.Y. Sao) arrests the international drug cartel’s Los Angeles-based operative (Brian Le) and impersonates him to go deep undercover in the Bangkok criminal underworld. But as he works to gain the trust of higher-ups in the gang’s inner circle, the line between cop and criminal becomes increasingly blurred, leaving him—and his […]
8 min. read I have been eyeing the progression of actor and martial artist D.Y. Sao – almost for as long as I’ve been on this platform. His credits extend a little further back including a small role in R.L. Scott’s 2010 sequel endeavor, Champion Road: Arena, and some several years later he’d be the subject of several indie web and film crowdfunding ventures as a member of Usurp Productions at the time. In recent memory, the Cambodian-born Long Beach townsman found himself in a more momentous space with the likes of martial arts filmmaking troupe, Martial Club. The actor also did two feature films with late director Pearry Reginald Teo: 2021 revenge thriller Fast Vengeance, and indie action dark fantasy, Shadow Master the following year, both which also saw the involvement of Chaya Supannarat in a producing capacity to add to her extensive miscellaneous film set credits. The latter […]
Actor and martial artist Brian Le will join the pan-Asian ensemble cast of The Furious. Japanese action stalwart Kenji Tanigaki (Enter The Fat Dragon) is directing the movie in Bangkok, Thailand with cameras now rolling. Le joins a bustling line-up headed by Chinese actor Xie Miao, Indonesia’s Joe Taslim and Yayan Ruhian, and Thai action star Jeeja Yanin. Miao plays Konggu, a simple tradesman whose daughter is snatched off the street. Teaming up with a tireless journalist named Navin (Taslim), the two tear through a complex web of criminals in a frantic attempt to win her back by any means necessary. Bill Kong (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) is financing and producing the film via Edko Films with XYZ Film’s Todd Brown (The Raid: Redemption, The Raid 2) producing and handling world sales at the Cannes market next month. Le, along with older brother Andy Le (Shang Chi and the Legend […]
Director Pearry Teo is no stranger to action, while most of his resumè is largely comprised of horror films. His latest, Shadow Master, combines some of the best of both genres, plugging in his penchant for costume fanfare, religious folklore, and graphic novel allure as the all-consuming backdrop for a story brimming with darkness and violence, and topped off with high-octane martial arts action. Teo is joined by the efforts of producer Chaya Supannarat, along with executive producer Prachya Pinkaew, best known for directing several Thai action hits over the years which gave rise to stars like Tony Jaa and Jeeja Yanin. That the film was once set to shoot in Thailand at one point before pandemic restrictions became an issue resulting in the production’s move to a more stateside locale within the U.S. certainly makes Pinkaew’s involvement a little more magnanimous, especially given the talent on hand. For this, […]
Little is all but known about what lies ahead for director Pearry Reginald Teo’s next endeavor, save for the fact that he’s already deep into his next project, Hanuman, which sees him partnering once again with his Fast Vengeance star D.Y. Sao. The film also has actor and stunt performer Brian Le on board, among the cadre of hard-working and hard-earning fire and brimstone martial arts action stunt troupe, Martial Club, best known for exceling in recent hit box office feats like Well Go USA’s The Paper Tigers, Andy Long’s Luc Van Tien: KungFu Hustle and Marvel’s Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings. Hanuman was supposed to be filmed in Thailand months ago with the involvement of Prachya Pinkaew (Ong Bak, Tom Yum Goong) in a behind-the-scenes capacity, until Covid became a factor and lockdowns upended those prospects. Shooting instead is underway in Kentucky, and with little else […]
If you’re a fan of martial arts cinema and have kept up with the burgeoning waves of online talent since 2000, you’ve likely had your eye on filmmaker Bao Tran given his output through his POV-films banner. By 2008, the move to etch his place in independent film history a time or two, including with the wunderkinds of Zero Gravity for noir-tinged action drama short, Bookie, would only be the fortuitous start of Tran’s journey of resolute creativity through community. For this, it’s been nine years since Tran began development, and six since setting it all in motion with his 2015 proof-of-concept, The Challenger, eventually taking his hustle to the Frontières pitch floor with a rich concept and a bold statement to the industry and the world that now culminates his ambitious feature film debut, The Paper Tigers. Directing from his own script and adherent to a bona fide cast […]
Martial Club is still proliferating their brand in the fields of martial arts, health and wellness, stunts and action cinema. To date, they’re still committed to their YouTube audience while working on their own endeavors, which no less includes their very own feature film. Team member Andy Le announced the project in November 2018, as a declaration to unilaterally grow and evolve toward making their own opportunities happen. “Martial arts action cinema was the platform that inspired me to do martial arts. And so we wanna create the same.” said Le at the time. Le says he is currently writing the project in the channel’s newest video. The team has been assembling their own content for their YouTube channel – including a Fist Of Fury-inspired short which he says is about a year or so overdue – while working on what Le says in the video were “opportunities that we […]
Bao Tran‘s exhilarating 2015 kung fu proof of concept in The Challenger is taking shape at long last with its current evolution, The Paper Tigers, already underway in Seattle, Washington. The official headline casting for the film has also been laid out as well with Dino-Ray Ramos at Deadline confirming actors Alain Uy (The Morning Show), Ron Yuan (Blood And Bone) and Mykel Shannon Jenkins (Undisputed 3: Redemption). The trio will star respectively as Danny, Hing and Jim – former kung fu prodiges now working as middle-aged men one kick away from pulling a hamstring. When their master is murdered, they must quell their differences in order to seek justice. The actors are joined by 102 Productions’ own Phillip Dang along with sibling martial arts duo, YouTubers Andy and Brian Le (Unlucky Stars, Luc Van Tien: Kungfu Hustle). The three will play a gang of martial artists who come from […]
Stunt performance, martial arts and film troupe, Martial Club, are affirming followers of their channel and social media on plans to make a martial arts feature film. While stunt performer, martial artist and dynamic Instagram kicker Brian Le was the first to give mention to the project earlier this week, his brother, fellow actor, stunt performer and martial artist Andy Le took to their Martial Club YouTube channel to explain the team’s latest updates. “Me, Brian and Daniel [Mah] and our guys have been at this for a really long time.” says Le. “And we’ve been hammering it out, we’ve been training a lot, we’ve been shooting a lot, we’ve been editing a lot, we’ve been doing a lot. We literally put our blood, sweat and tears into everything. And at this point, we’re just sick of waiting for opportunities to come to us, and our dream is to inspire […]
I have often talked about the Martial Club before on my Facebook page. Martial Club is a professional sports team based out in California. The members currently include Daniel Mah, and the Le brothers, Andy and Brian. Andy has been training for about five or six years, with Brian practicing for up to three. In 2009 they started making shortfilms of their own through 2010 when they met Daniel Mah. From what I have researched so far, the team is largely known in its working comnunity as a small group of athletes who train in Wushu Kung Fu and gymnastics, and for competing and showcasing their dynamic skillsets for live sporting events at places like the JAM Gymnasium in Reseda, California. Martial Club is also known for partaking in performing stunts and choreographing action sequences for today’s independent action film industry, as can be seen on their YouTube channel, as […]
