The Movies That Moved Me: Bryan Singer’s X-MEN
Singer’s alleged reputation notwithstanding, we are still allowed to like things. And, I still like this movie.

I sat and thought from time to time about who should star in a remake of Red Sonja. I’m thoroughly sold on the idea of casting either Rebecca Ferguson or even Jessica Chastain for title. That said, depending on how far things go, I’m slightly confident that Sophie Turner would suit the role given having shared the set prior with X-Men: Apocalypse helmer Bryan Singer. Word from Heat Vision at THR states the beleagured helmer of upcoming Bohemian Rhapsody is being tapped to direct the film for Millenium. The character was originally recreated by Roy Thomas and artist Barry Windsor with partial inspiration from Robert E. Howard’s own shortstory work from the 1930s. The crux of Red Sonja centers on a young girl from the Western Hyrkanian steppes who trains and sets out to seek revenge for her own rape and the murder of her family. Richard Fleischer’s original 1985 […]
Big screen efforts haven’t waned for the X-Men film saga at all recently and you needn’t look further than the latest developments with Simon Kinberg’s latest attachment to possibly write and direct the next movie in question. That said, we now advance toward small screen endeavors wherein it was last summer that Bryan Singer and Matt Nix were officially reported as on-board for a pilot committment with Fox Television’s advancement of a live-action X-Men TV series inspired by the hit Marvel franchise. On Wednesday, you’ll find things bustling a bit with word via Variety that actress Jamie Chung has been tapped for a role as the mutant, Blink, in the series pilot. Based on the teleporter as seen in the comics as early as 1994, Blink (a.k.a. Clarice Fong) is described as a sardonic, lively, mild tomboy forced to adjust to her new life in the aftermath of a series […]
X-Men: Apocalypse marks the third film in Fox’s X-Men soft reboot franchise. And since Bryan Singer produced First Class, it stands as his triumvirate return to the mythology after his ill-advised departure which resulted in the loathsome defeasance of X-Men: The Last Stand, directed by the man with so apropos a name (Brett Ratner) you’d think we were actually living in a comic book universe any time his name enters a conversation. If douchiness were a superpower, any image of him would work as projectiles like Gambit’s cards. The film begins in Egypt in the deep past, picking up where the end credit teaser for X-Men: Days Of Future Past left off. The immortal mutant, notably the world’s first mutant, En Sabah Nur, played by Oscar Isaac, is prepared to transfer from an aging body and into a new one when the ritual is sabotaged by a rebellion of slaves […]
I think it’s fair to say that almost whenever any kind of super hero movie news makes the rounds speculating that a certain character may or may not make an appearance, the truth in the end will be the opposite. We saw it when we first heard that Robert Downey Jr. wouldn’t appear in the third installment of Captain America: Civil War before that was exact opposite was confirmed (comic book aficionados likely knew better), and now after first learning that Hugh Jackman’s longstanding X-Men role as Marvel mainstay, Wolverine, wouldn’t appear in Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Apocalypse, that all turns out to be a complete falsehood in the initial trailer tease for Monday’s third trailer release of the film which opens later next month. Sure, we don’t fully know in what capacity he’ll be in the film, but the claws at the end dictate the very fact that Jackman WILL […]

Watch the new #XMen: #Apocalypse featurette now. Posted by X-Men Movies on Monday, April 4, 2016 Well, here’s one way to sell an upcoming follow-up for one of the best comic book franchise adaptations in the last two decades: Character posters! And 20th Century Fox has rolled out a bundle here of up to ten of them for the May 27 release of X-Men: Apocalypse to accompany your tastes. Bryan Singer returns to direct with all but plenty of hope for success now that Oscar Isaac’s apocalypse is looking a lot less like Ivan Ooze than in earlier photos, which is a good thing. The more bluer, the more merrier fans […]
Jeebus. Say what you will about comic book movies, but you can’t dog director Bryan Singer when it comes to the X-Men franchise among its three directors. His latest foray into the saga with X-Men: Apocalypse is brimming with gravitas and epicism in a way that definitely brings things somewhat full circle, here and now with Oscar Isaac in the title villain role and the ultimate impetus for our heroes to band together. SYNOPSIS: Following the critically acclaimed global smash hit X-Men: Days of Future Past, director Bryan Singer returns with X-MEN: APOCALYPSE. Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshipped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including […]
Fifteen years in the making and with all other forthcoming developments aside, director Bryan Singer comes full circle for a film that will undoubtely ensue in the greatest battle our heroes have faced. The new trailer has officially arrived for X-Men: Apocalypse in the player below, (though leaked a few moments earlier on Friday) with a release set for Memorial Day – May 27, 2016 with actor Star Wars: The Force Awakens co-star Oscar Isaac in the title role as the imposing (and preferably lesser purple Ivan Ooze-looking) villain. It’s never enough for a lot of comic book fans to see through to the end of a franchise. Once they love something, they prefer it stick around, which is natural with regard to the respective comic book universes of Marvel properties, X-Men and Fantastic Four. Both franchises have film slates of their own at Twentieth Century Fox with the latter reformatting for another go-around on August 7 by director Josh Trank, while former remains steady with its next installment, X-Men: Apocalypse, prepping for its theatrical run on May 27 next year. Franchise principal helmer Bryan Singer is directing the film following last year’s X-Men: Days Of Future Past which is getting a special extended “Rogue Cut” edition this summer, and it just so happens he was on hand to discuss that briefly with Yahoo (via Variety) in lieu of its release. Amid a series of questions, however, one inquiry […]
UPDATE: Looks like Singer decided to pull a fast one and remove Kodi Smit-McPhee’s costume debut of Nightcrawler from his Instagram account. Luckily the folks over at CBM have the animation as well as a new picture. (H/T: Cameron) There’s no telling what the future will hold for the current production of director Bryan Singer‘s latest, X-Men: Apocalypse. However, the forthcoming battle will be the greatest game changer yet with actor Oscar Isaac in the role of title villain, and with a new war at hand, our heroes will need all the power they can get. No doubt that actor Kodi Smit-McPhee will be joining as the character Nightcrawler, in its second iteration following Tony award-winning actor Alan Cumming’s role as the bright-eyed indigo-colored mutant teleporter in the 2003 film, X2. Alas, Singer has shared an Instagram video of Smit-McPhee in costume, which you can check out below. First day […]
Best. News. Ever. I first discovered actress Olivia Munn for myself many years ago when she co-hosted the popular geek-friendly variety show, Attack Of The Show on G4TV with fellow host Kevin Pereira. Of course, that was long before NBC Universal deprioritized it last year, although it’s made plenty of room for Munn to transcend herself into ample television, web and even film stardom with shows like HBO’s The Newsroom, 2010 films Date Night and Iron Man 2, the 2012 flick, Magic Mike and this year’s release, Mortdecai. Low and behold, leave it to X-Men helmer, director Bryan Singer to speak to the hearts and minds of fanboys in 2015 with the long-awaited debut of the character Psylocke in the forthcoming new movie, X-Men: Apocalypse which arrives on May 27, 2016. Comicbook.com forwarded the latest social media blurb via Singer‘s Twitter/Instagram as things now hit their peak in this, the eighth […]
The past two years have been huge in the world of superhero entertainment in film and television with two cinematic universes on their way between two studios, particularly at Marvel with their current slate between now through 2019 while ABC and Netflix pave the way for shows like Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D., Agent Carter, Daredevil, Iron Fist and the newly cast A.K.A. Jessica Jones which just added its newest supervillain with Doctor Who familiar David Tennant. In addition, there have even been talks for at least year to develop the longstanding X-Men franchise for a return to the small screen following its successful animated Fox Kids series in the 90’s, although this week, the studio is finally confirming the news with Fox Entertainment chairman Gary Newman speaking out on the matter. “It’s in negotiations,” he said. “We’re cautiously optimistic, we had a good meeting with them. That will not be on […]
Development is still up in the air for the forthcoming installment of X-Men: Apocalypse, following up filmmaker Bryan Singer‘s 2014 smash-hit, X-Men: Days Of Future Past. According to recent statements made by screenwriter and producer Simom Kinberg, recasting for certain roles may be a possibility depending on where the new film goes, which he also stated could follow-up the 2011 movie, X-Men: First Class. At any rate now, at least one thing is certain with word from Deadline that Singer, with all earlier legal woes cast aside for now, can now follow through on his Twitter announcement last December and hop board to direct the new film which is currently dated for May 27, 2016, courtesy of 20th Century Fox. Singer is also providing the script with Kinberg, Michael Dougherty and Dan Harris, as well as producing with Kinberg, Lauren Shuler Donner and Hutch Parker for an early 2015 production […]
SYNOPSIS: The ultimate X-Men ensemble fights a war for the survival of the species across two time periods in X-Men: Days of Future Past. The characters from the original X-Men film trilogy join forces with their younger selves from X-Men: First Class in an epic battle that must change the past – to save our future. REVIEW: The X-Men are back, and better than ever in X-Men: Days of Future Past. It’s great to have Bryan Singer regain control of the franchise, and to deliver a story in the X-Men universe that’s actually enjoyable on multiple levels. Time travel might be my favorite storytelling device. Donnie Darko is one of my favorite films. I really liked Looper and Frequency. The Prisoner of Azkaban was my favorite Harry Potter film. And who doesn’t love Back to the Future? I’m glad it finally made its way into a superhero film. In 2023, […]
Straight and to the point: I’m pretty sure that events within the last twelve hours or so may not be dimming away the serious, bitter reality that director Bryan Singer is facing right now with a pending lawsuit regarding an alleged incident in 1999. As such, with regard to the fate of X-Men: Apocalypse, indeed, the future is left unwritten. Nonetheless, we still have an exciting movie to look forward to in the May 23 release of X-Men: Days Of Future Past, and there’s no need to punish the studio or the actors. I’m still looking forward to this movie and supporting what comes of this really epic story that has kept filmgoers in seats since 2000. So we’ll see what happens with Singer and what will be said and done in the days and months ahead about his situation while I wish all parties involved the best of luck. […]
The next X-Men movie based on Marvel’s classic franchise has seen a rollercoaster of news since the first trailer made its way back online back in October, between an amazing slate of Empire magazine covers, Instagram teasers, character photos via Twitter, updates on actresses Anna Paquin and Halle Berry with all sorts of news and rumors regarding how much or how little we will see of their respective characters, Rogue and Storm, and so much more. It’s a lot to keep up while trying to attain solid news as all the rest of us really want is to just see the movie. On that note, director Bryan Singer already has his handsful with possibly bringing on a few more notable characters for the May 27, 2016 release X-Men: Apocalypse, with actor Hugh Jackman confirmed for returning director James Mangold’s third standalone role as The Wolverine slated for March 3, 2017, […]
