All roads point to Marvel Entertainment as the week commences with a raft of news, now ongoing with a second official trailer for Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck’s Captain Marvel.
Continuing the countdown, we’re listing up to 100 movie titles to look forward to in 2019. We’ve listed ten thusfar. Alas, here are five more:
While two seasons away from its release next year, it’s safe to say the first official trailer for the new third-phase MCU outing, Captain Marvel, has gained a foothold. Directing pair Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck are at the helm for the new chapter of the continuing saga now preceding the events of Avengers: Infinity War, with actress Brie Larson front and center.
Marvel’s TV branch rolled out its chosen three for the latest casting of Marvel’s The Punisher which hails the return of actor Jon Bernthal following a winning appearance in season two of Daredevil and a roaring first season of the new show itself. Per Marvel Television:

We’re surely a ways from any other female-led Marvel properties other than what lies ahead for actress Brie Larson’s upcoming debut as Captain Marvel. For now, production is underway and New York Post’s Page Six column entry from Bryan Hood now reveals an exclusive first look at the film’s star with a slate of seven set photos now online; What you see above is a sampled crop of Larson in costume from the tweeted article which you can check out in full at PageSix.com.
Mississippi Grind‘s Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck are helming the film for its March 2019 release from a script by Geneva Robertson-Dworet (upcoming Tomb Raider and Gotham City Sirens), Meg LeFauve (Inside Out) and Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy). The 1990’s-set story sees Larson as Carol Danvers, the ill-gotten US Air Force Security Chief who becomes the title heroine following a near-fatal explosion involving alien DNA.
The Oscar-winning actress is bringing her best superhero game for the film’s March 8, 2019 open, marking one of at least two appearances in Marvel and Disney’s MCU. Samuel L. Jackson will also star as a younger incarnation of Nick Fury, sans eyepatch with actress DeWanda Wise (She’s Gotta Have It), and actord Ben Mendelsohn (Rogue One, Ready Player One) and Jude Law (Sherlock Holmes).
With Marvel Studios’s Captain Marvel adapation still two years out from its release, the upcoming phase three adaptation is still taking shape with actress Brie Larson (Kong: Skull Island) having been cast as of last July. Thankfully, word now, via Variety, writes that the film has found its directors in the form of Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck (Mississippi Grind, Showtime series The Affair and Billions) who’ve been in talks with Marvel execs for the last few weeks before being offered the movie last week.
The character itself bares numerous versions but will focus solely on the Carol Danvers iterarion based on her 1968 launch from creators Roy Thomas and Gene Colan, telling of an airforce pilot who awakens with superhuman powers and strength after surviving a deadly explosion involving weaponry that fuses her DNA with that of an alien. Guardians Of The Galaxy scribe Nicole Perlman & and Disney•Pixar’s Inside Out writer Meg LeFauve are behind the script with Kevin Feige producing for its March 8, 2019 release.
Marvel has several things happening with its various properties, including its latest mingling of ideas for R-rated material in the wake of the stunning success of Deadpool and the energizing announcement of a more adult-appropriated Wolverine film. That’s one particular end of Marvel’s vast cinematic venture we’ll touch on another time while we turn our focus to another stellar and more family-friendly property, Guardians Of The Galaxy: Vol. 2.
The first film became a surprise hit for director and writer James Gunn earning close to $774 million dollars globally, and ultimately opening the door for co-writer Nicole Perlman to join the crew of Marvel’s upcoming MCU installement, Captain Marvel. Moreover, that surprise hit the film drew can easily be attributed to the incredible performances of its cast, particularly for leading man Chris Pratt along with hulking actor Dave Bautista and actress Zoë Saldana next to the CGI likeness of a talking tree named Groot voiced by Vin Diesel, and a badass talking raccoon named Rocket, played Bradley Cooper.
It’s supporting cast of performers including Michael Rooker, Lee Pace, Karen Gillan, John C. Reilly and actor Josh Brolin also paved the way to the film’s electric chemistry and pacing next to a soundtrack made of pure gold with a soulful soundtrack of classic rock and love ballads that made this tale a fittingly brilliant one for all its deserved success along with great action sequences that easily stand the test of time. For this, we’re now off to a sequel, and time will tell how all this will bode as we engage Phase Three a little more with the crop of actors we have now for each film to come; new films are being added as we speak and so nothing is really set in stone with the ideas floating around among the higher-ups at Marvel and Disney, but their track record so far says a lot about the prospects here and so I suspect there’s plenty of reason to feel assured in a fine sequel. It’s director knows his shit, and you can’t argue that against that.

The on-going war for bragging rights continues as Marvel and DC continue to duke it out, toe-to-toe, neck and neck for ultimate live-action comic book TV and film glory. DC is currently in the running following its most recent productions of productions for Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice, as well as the developing TV universe between current shows like Gotham, Arrow and The Flash, and upcoming teleivison properties like Titans, Supergirl and Krypton.
Of course, Marvel wasn’t going to let all that slide, especially after having just announced what it has in store for their cinematic universe at least twice in the past month. So on Tuesday, they held an epic event to shut down all epic events (at least for now), and it’s safe to say thay the fans are happy (seriously, I think one of them shit their pants – their words, true story). On that note, here it is, all nice and thick and whatnot:
May 6, 2016 was the official release date already pre-determined for the newly announced and officially-titled Captain America: Civil War, which will see title actor Chris Evans and fellow Avenger Robert Downey Jr. in front of the camera with directors Anthony Russo and Joe Russo helming. Afterward, Scott Derrickson‘s Doctor Strange was tacked for November 4, 2016 with Benedict Cumberbatch in talks to star as of Monday.
The 2017 slate would also be kicked off with the advanced May 5 announcement for director James Gunn‘s ensemble rock-and-roll space hero thriller, Guardians Of The Galaxy 2 followed by actor Chris Hemsworth‘s return in the title role of the July 28 installment of Thor: Ragnarok, with scribes Craig Kyle and Christopher Yost writing the script. Actor Chadwick Boseman‘s presence at the event also ended specualtion for his confirmation in the November 3 release of Black Panther, much to the delight of fans after the appearance of the character Ulysses Klaw in last week’s Avengers: Age Of Ultron teaser.
Blasting off the 2018 slate, Marvel then followed through with an announcement for the July 6 date for Captain Marvel, in parallel to DC’s upcoming Shazam film for which actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was confirmed to play the film’s anti-heroic villain, Black Adam last month. Moving on with the big announcements of the day were updates for the two-part third installment to the Avengers saga with Avengers: Infinity War – Parts 1 and 2 set May 4 and then May 3, 2019, respectively, with the other Vin Diesel-hopeful starrer, The Inhumans slated for a November 2, 2018 date in between; it has been reported that Marvel took an interest in bringing the Russo brothers aboard to round off the 3.4 part Avengers finale, so details on this are still pending.
New banners are now online as well to announce the releases. As usual, these films will set the course for plenty of changes to come, turning the comic book genre into a pure, rich platform for bringing spectacular saga-storytelling to the big screen as a game changer in many ways. Its what some fans have wanted over years, and the number has increased tremendously. Marvel is heeding the call, so…you’re welcome, and more to come. In the meantime, check out the banners below, and stay tuned for more footage to go viral for the May 1, 2015 release of Avengers: Age Of Ultron, directed by Joss Whedon, and director Peyton Reed‘s July 17, 2015 release of Ant-Man!
