STAR TREK: DISCOVERY Confirms Michelle Yeoh In A Recurring Role

A few days ago, ComingSoon.net reported that actress and martial artist Michelle Yeoh was up for a role in CBS’s forthcoming All Access series, Star Trek: Discovery. It wasn’t confirmed at the time, but developments in the last twenty four hours have finally made it official that Yeoh’s would be a Captain’s role. More specifically, Deadline‘s own exclusive coverage confirms that Yeoh, best known for her prolific stardom in nearly three decades as one of the world’s most versatile and beloved action stars, will play Han Bo, serving as the Captain of another ship named the Shenzhou which will have a major role to play in the series. Well, okay. Clearly CBS didn’t have much to share back in May during upfronts for CBS’s new Star Trek series. Nonetheless, Trekkies alike have surfaced in lieu of the upcoming big screen release of Star Trek: Beyond with new life taking shape once again on the small screen, in addition to the network’s exclusive CBS All Access digital and VoD platform. Of course, not everyone has CBS All Access or even CBS for that matter. Perhaps there is some light at the end of the seeming long and unending tunnel comprised of failed attempts to transition dated film content to contemporary serial programming. For this instance, Fox’s latest trailer for Lethal Weapon doesn’t really give me much to feel inspired over, and hasn’t been that long since CBS handed down its Supergirl series over to the CW. This, on top of the latter network’s choice to cancel their latest efforts toward a Rush Hour series after the first season has given them a lot of ground to cover in picking up the slack. 80’s television action favorite, MacGyver, is slowly coming back into fashion nowadays as the last five months have proven positive for the character’s resurgence back to the mainstream. CBS is working on a television adaptation of the character while Lionsgate has since followed through with an announcement this year for a feature film to finally come to fruition and my guess is as good as yours as to how thing could turn out for both, whether they tie in to each other or act as seperate entities from one another. McGYVER Heads To The Big Screen!

CBS is currently busy working on bringing a preceding story arc to its small screen adaptation of the hit ABC series, McGyver. Furious Seven helmer James Wan is executive producing and directing a pilot for that iteration in place of previously hoping to direct a feature film which has been in the works for sometime now and once thought to be not happening at all. Then, Friday came and during a third quarter earnings call among those at Lionsgate to discuss the details for 2016, and it just so happens one thing led to another with word that the studio will be working with CBS to bring McGyver to the big screen. CBS Orders Fuqua’s TRAINING DAY To Pilot

Following news from last summer, Deadline reports that CBS has officiallt ordered a pilot for a small screen adaptation of Antoine Fuqua’s award-winning 2001 crime drama, Training Day. The original film, from Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow Pictures, earned actor Denzel Washington an Acadamy Award for Best Actor in the role of a morally bent narcotics detective who take a rookie on his first day out for a department evaluation which exposes murder, corruption and betrayal. Washington starred along with actor Ethan Hawke who earned a nomination for Best Supporting Actor. Cast details are pending but word has it that the new show, to be written by Gangster Squad scribe Will Beall, will put a small spin on the original film’s narrative with the story set to pake place fifteen years after events of the movie, and the ethinicities of both lead characters switched. Tom Welling To Save The World In SECTION 13 For CBS

I haven’t seen all the seasons of the hit show, Smallville, but coming from comic book fandom with the show’s 10-season run, it’s clearly done justice for its then-star Tom Welling. The show ended in 2011 while the actor went onto other endeavors but now it looks like he’s working his way back to television bound for his new home at CBS. Deadline reports this week that the network is developing the new action series, Section 13 with Bones and Home and Away scribe Carla Kettner writing. Welling will play a former black-ops specialist-turned-private contractor who endures a personal tragedy and subsequently becomes a member of covert organization that takes on dangerous high-stakes missions. More details are needed but this sounds like a fun show to look forward to. CBS's SUPERGIRL Gets Seven More Episodes For Its First Season

Well, it’s been a definitive season of superhero fandom and the premiere of the new CBS installation of DC Comics property, Supergirl, certainly fits the mold. The show’s progress following its premiere back in October has led it to fruition as one of the highest rated and most-watched shows of the season, and so CBS is now ordering seven more for a total of 20 episodes for its first season. Actress Melissa Benoist stars in the title role, distant from her much more popular male cousin who discovers herself in the wake of Krypton’s destruction. Mehcad Brooks, Chyler Leigh and Jeremy Jordan with David Harewood and Calista Flockhart also star in the series created and executive produced by Greg Berlanti, Ali Adler, Andrew Kreisberg and Sarah Schechter in association with Warner Bros. Television.

Film director and producer Ridley Scott may be busy with another offering of Alien sci-fi for the fans, but now he’s dabbling back into television with at least six projects through his Scott Free Television banner. And what’s more, is that the slate now leaves room for a new TV comedy starring Jean-Claude Van Damme. Deadline reports Scott’s slate of deals between CBS shows developing at AMC will include the new series, Jean-Claude Van Johnson. The half-hour long series will be written and executive produced by Dave Callaham with Van Damme partly starring as himself under the aforementioned alias who also happens to be the world’s most dangerous private contractor. This wouldn’t be the first time Van Damme placed more of himself under the microscope with films like JCVD whilst flexing more of his acting muscle as of late. I can’t remember off the top of my head how long it’s been since Star Trek was on the small screen, but we’ve had several versions of this amazing and phenomenal show for several decades, and with the cult following it has, it’s no surprise that viewers are eager for more. Yes, another film is lined up for next year, but CBS is rebooting the show entirely for a January 2017 premiere which will head to television and stream through the network’s on-demamd service, CBS All Access. Alex Kurtzman is executive producing the new show which will boldly go and explore new life and new civilizations…though I am curious to see what will stick around and what won’t as far as Romulans and Klingons are concerned. So, apparently the narrative is to bring any and all classic television shows and films to reboot development for the small screen. Some of this may be good or bad and it’s entirely up to the viewer, and I can’t really help but wonder if something else is driving this trend (maybe studios don’t want to put millions of dollars into films that might flop out of fear of suffering the same fate the A-Team did…idunno. That’s just my guess.) Perhaps some of the biggest news that took up most of the last few months revolved around all things coming to television between now and 2016. As such, the Fall line-up has been quite the talk and with particular regard to the upcoming pilot premiere of CBS’s one-hour per episode series adaptation of DC Comics character, Supergirl. No need for those who probably already saw the pilot when it was leaked online last month, thought it would still be pretty neat for fans to help support it and promote through its better-quality viewing on television. Following Wednesday’s first look, a new short trailer is out for the Fall premiere of CBS’s new TV series, Supergirl. Actress Melissa Benoist takes on the lead carrying her home planet’s symbol of hope apart from her much more known cousin, and it will undoubtedly get the hardcore fanbase to pay attention, however which way you feel about the series. Granted, if this short trailer happens to be YOUR first look, then consider yourself lucky. It takes on a slightly more serious tone with a little bit more superswag, and in my opinion, this should have happened yesterday. Check it out below! And yes, I wrote the word “superswag”. Aside from the current expectations preset by Warner Bros. in the wake of all hype for its current theatrical slate, the DC Comics realm of television has a bit of a thing going for itself with all of its properties whether active or in developments, one of them being CBS’s Fall programming slate with the inclusion of the new series, Supergirl. The network just released a six-minute first look into the series which casts Melissa Benoist in an Ally McBeal-ish setting that no less seems fitting for television and a notable nod to actress Calista Flockhart who plays the dragon lady who rules the office. The world of television has evolved in stellar fashion with various networks taking cues from Marvel and DC Comics to form numerous superheroes shows in the past several years.
