Not to be confused with Guo Jingming’s latest currently on Netflix, next on deck with director Li Weiran will be The Yin Yang Master, having also landed home at Netflix with global exclusive rights (sans China) per the streamer’s announcement on Tuesday.
Between two films that bare the same title, director Li Weiran’s incarnation of The Yin Yang Master takes its cues from the popular mobile game.
Netflix Asia unveiled a gorgeous new trailer on Thursday for Mandarin drama series, The Rise Of Phoenixes. Upcoming The Weary Poet actor Chen Kun and actress Ni Ni headline the new show, clocked in at 70 episodes all loosely based on Huang Quan, a novel by Tianxia Guiyuan.
Last month saw the emergence of new stills for yet another in what hopefully won’t be as elusive in feature films as was the quietly released The Hidden Sword. Enter The Weary Poet from director Xu Haofeng and with a cast that lists Zhou Xun and actor Chen Kun in their first film together in six years.
I’ve tried my darndest to keep up with director Xu Haofeng in the last several years ever since I caught the fever with The Final Master. I’ve seen most of his films at least once, save for The Hidden Blade which, last I checked, came out last year, and frankly, you could knock me over with a feather if you told me that film was released. I hadn’t a single clue about it following the film’s teaser as there was no official trailer at least I knew of.
The film itself is fantastic with a great share of comedy and spectacle throughout. Some of it is a little annoying with at least one of the characters getting on my bad side and I talk about it all in my review from last year. Apart from that, know that a sequel is coming, and the best way to prepare yourself is to see what came before it. Or read the book, whatever your preference is.
