Rights to Claudia Tan’s award-winning Wattpad publication, Perfect Addiction, is now in the hands of Constantin Film who announced acquisition on Tuesday. Stephanie Sanditz (Infernal Devices, Beautiful Bastard, FX series Pyramid) is set to pen the script for a film that Constantin says “balances a Rocky-esque underdog story and a salacious romance in a sexy and gripping package”. Perfect Addiction will center on Sienna Lane, a boxing trainer who plot to get even with her cheating boyfriend, reigning boxing champion Jax, by training his arch-nemesis, the dark, moody, and secretive MMA vet, Kayden. Between her technical prowess and his umatched potential, their reluctant partnership gradually turns into a chemistry and intensity they can’t contain within the ring, and they don’t want to. The novel itself has accumulated over 81 million reads. Jeremy Bolt at JB Pictures and Constantin Film’s Robert Kulzer (Resident Evil franchise, Polar, upcoming Monster Hunter) are circling […]
The video game movie trend now continues with news at Deadline for upcoming actioner, Just Cause. John Wick franchise writer Derek Kolstad who himself proclaimed his fandom for the Avalanche Studios/Square Enix game franchise, will write and produce the film with Constantin Film and Prime Universe Films. The move marks the latest update two years after San Andreas helmer Brad Peyton and Aquaman actor Jason Momoa were tapped to direct and star, respectively, back in 2017 from a script by John Collee. Also producing are Prime Universe’s Adian Askarieh with Robert Kulzer for Constantin whose Martin Moszkowicz will exec produce with Square Enix. Plot details and specifics are currently unknown for the film which will otherwise reportedly stick to the game’s blueprint following Rico, a black ops agent under the employ of The Agency, and in a race against the clock to take down a mercenary group known as The […]
Writer Kerry Williamson (Alex Cross) did a great job packaging what Netflix consumers got with Tommy Wirkola’s harrowing sci-fi, What Happened To Monday, a fact that makes me all the more excited that she’s now penning an adaptation of the Natasha Alterici’s Vault Comics publication, Heathen. Mike Fleming Jr. broke the news at Deadline last Thursday telling of efforts from Constantin Film and Prime Universe to take on the female-centric viking warrioress adventure centered on, Aydis – an outcast born in a time of war and tumult, sets out to end the god-king Odin’s reign and free oppressed women from their shackles. The news comes just as the sell-out hit comic’s second volume is set to release in July. According to Deadline, Heathen was recently selected by Young Adult Library Service Association to be included in its 2018 Great Graphic Novels For Teens list. Said Alterici: “The entire Heathen team […]
Production is currently underway in Toronto for the new action thriller, Polar following its announcement late last year. Swedish helmer Jonas Åkerlund is directing with a script by Jayson Rothwell that sees actor Mads Mikkelsen leading a cast now confirmed by an exclusive at Deadline that also lists Vanessa Hudgens (High School Musical franchise), Kathryn Winnick (Vikings series) and Matt Lucas (Alice In Wonderland). Based on the 2013 Dark Horse publication from creator Victor Santos, Mikkelsen stars as the world’s top assassin, Duncan Vizla (a.k.a. The Black Kaizer). Upon settling into retirement looming, he learns his employer sees him as a liability, forcing him back in the game to protect an innocent woman with a squad of younger, faster and hungry killers hot on their tail. Polar hails from Netflix and Constantin Films whose Robert Kulzer is producing along with Jeremy Bolt and Hartley Gorenstein. Mikkelsen is executive producing next […]
Justice League may not be on everyone’s radar going into the weekend. Looking forward however, trade news on Thursday offers some light on the matter with news on IDW Publishing’s Danger Girl with film and television rights acquired by Constantin Film. The company will team up with with Bolt Pictures and Prime Universe Films to produce a film and develop a TV show based on the IP which found its way to comic book shelves in 1996. Created by J. Scott Campbell and Andy Hartnell, Danger Girl, tells of Abbey Chase, the reluctant recruit of a secret spy organization who teams up with cohorts Sydney Savage and Natalia Kasstle to retrieve a series of mystical objects against the wills of criminal enterprise, The Hammer Syndicate. The search for writers and directors is currently underway. More from Deadline: “Looking at Danger Girl’s lead character Abbey Chase and her posse of thrill-seeking femme […]
I can’t be too bothered with Screen Gems’s Resident Evil movies of the last…what… the last seventeen years? Personally I’ve only seen maybe four of them and as forgettable and copycat they’ve been with some of the action set-pieces I sort of stopped caring, as much as I love Milla Jovovich too. That said, I’m sure the franchise has had plenty going for itself otherwise it wouldn’t have amassed more than $1.2 billion dollars at the global box office. Apparently however, that’s not enough for the studio who now tells Variety that a reboot with ANOTHER SIX MOVIES is in the works as confirmed by Germany-based Constantin Film chairman of the board Martin Moszkowicz while at Cannes. The film franchise takes its cues from the 1996 Capcom video game which currently has 27 installments. Constantin had a hand in producing each of the films featuring Jovovich as nomadic superhuman warrior, […]
